What's Up Wednesday

Hi friends! It's the last Wednesday of the month, so I'm linking up with three of my favorite bloggers, Mel, Shay, and Sheaffer! Link up with us!

What we're eating this week...
The kids have been eating banana peanut butter muffins for breakfast, and I'm planning on making some of my salsa when one of my besties from high school visits this weekend. Stop by tomorrow when I share a recipe for lime chicken!

What I'm reminiscing about...
I love the Facebook "On This Day" feature! Pretty sure Roo still looks like this when I wake her up for school!

And look at my Doodle on his first day of Pre-K three years ago!

What I'm loving...
I think this quote is perfect for this new school year. Lots of changes and new beginnings, but happy in many ways!

What we've been up to...
It's the second week of school and the 4 billionth consecutive day of rain in Houston. I think we've become the Seattle of Texas. :( We've been doing a lot of reading lately. Trip is into the Battle Bugs series, and Ari got a Curious George treasury at school that she has been reading non-stop. We also love these beginner reader books.

What I'm dreading...
Not really dreading it, but starting next week, our schedules will become hectic with the kids starting soccer and ballet. I planned for their practices to be on the same night so we only have to give up one weeknight and Saturday mornings for game day. I'm thinking this was a smart move, but I'll let you know in a month how it really works!

What I'm working on...
My hair! My hairdresser has always given me a hard time about using a dryer and/or iron several times per week. So a few weeks ago, I showed up to my appointment with my natural, air-dried hair. She apologized for giving me so much grief the past few years and finally deemed that my natural hair is basically terrible and shouldn't see the light of day. So, I've been doing my research, and I need your input. Have you used Living Proof products? I took their survey and the Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 styling treatment was recommended. PLEASE leave me your thoughts about Living Proof in the comments. It's expensive but has awesome reviews.

(Side note: I'm looking for something to help keep my hair frizz-free, smooth, and humidity proof in Houston! It's A 10 and John Frieda mousse are my current products, but they're not doing so well in the 100 degree heat.)

What I'm excited about...
I've already purchased a few Halloween items and have started working on our costumes! Although I love summertime, October-December is just so much fun in our house! Doesn't this look so yummy? Follow my Halloween Pinterest board HERE.

What I'm watching/reading...
Mrs. Doubtfire was on t.v. the other night, so of course I stopped and watched! This part always makes me laugh too much!

What I'm listening to...
A few years ago, I gave away all of my cds. I mostly listen to Pandora and the radio when I drive, but one of my favorite albums is Tom Petty's Greatest Hits. I picked up a new copy at Half Price Books last month and have been enjoying it weekly!

What I'm wearing...

Pleione Crepe Tank (similar)

What I'm doing this weekend...
It's going to be a mini high school reunion when one of my besties comes to town! Looking forward to catching up with my track girls!

What I'm looking forward to next month...
I have been in remission for over a month now thanks to the wonder drug, Prednisone. But, I have a love/hate relationship with the steroid- it can help bring on remission but it also has lovely side effects like weight gain and "moon face." This article kind of sums it all up. If all goes according to plan, I should hopefully get to drop down to a lower dosage of my steroids and then hopefully go off of them for a very long time. I'll still stay on my copious amounts of maintenance meds, but to get the steroids out of my body will be a game changer!

What else is new...

Question of the month: What is your favorite summer to fall transitional piece in your closet?
I own three chambray shirts from Target. They've basically become a part of my weekly uniform! I've put together a few looks on Polyvore to show how I plan to style my chambray shirt in the upcoming months. Give me some more ideas in the comments below!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope that you've had a great August! Talk to me in the comments below- I'd love to hear from you! See you tomorrow for a new Try It Thursday recipe!

  1. I really like those outfits! I have yet to buy a chambray top. Maybe this will be the month? Sold off all my CDs too but I'm always looking at them when I'm in a store that sells them! Good luck with getting the kids to and fro! We have swim three nights a week and I'm not letting the youngest do anything yet but play with other kids when we're there LOL! Dropping by from the link up!
