Today I'm turning over the blog to my oldest monkey, my "Doodle" aka Trip. If you've got kids, grandkids, or nieces/nephews close to 7 years old, then today's post is right up your alley!
I like exploring new blogs that are recommended to me on my Bloglovin' feed. Last weekend, I read a post on Cool Mom Picks about great t.v. shows for tweens. I've been wanting the kids to try a kid show that wasn't a cartoon, and after watching some of the trailers of the shows recommended, Trip decided on Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street. The humor will hold your adult attention and the little bits of magic and mystery definitely grab the kids' attention. In a weird way, it reminds me a little bit of Pete & Pete. Is vintage Nick anywhere on t.v. these days? We're only a few episodes in, but we're definitely recommending this one! Side note- It's only 3 seasons long :(
Trip is a dedicated artist. There are notebooks, papers, markers, and pencils in almost every room of our house! Robert decided it was time to get Trip a real artist's desk. The cost of materials were pretty close to the cost of just purchasing a desk, so we used a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby and picked up this exact desk for less than $100. We're enjoying a cleaner home, and T is loving a space just for him and his work!
These markers are great, and they were a favorite of mine as a kid, too! They last well over a year and deliver rich color. If you're a teacher, these are my go to for grading tests and quizzes. Trip considers these his fancy markers, so his sister is not allowed to touch them. Luckily for her, he gets a new pack every year or so, therefore leaving her with lots of hand me downs.
Favorite book series: Bone
Trip is a great reader- I never have to fight him on this portion of homework. One of my 6th graders had a copy of the graphic novel series Bone by Jeff Smith. I looked through it, and it seemed appropriate for T, so I checked out the first book in the series for him. He's hooked and on the second book already. Apparently it's about a bone named Fone Bone who is banned from his town. The series follows Fone Bone and his cousins on their adventures away from home.
Favorite homemade snack: Mint Chocolate Balls
These are super easy to make and can be eaten at any meal or for a quick snack! You can trade out the flavoring or change the nut butter to fit your tastes.
Hoping Santa brings: Melissa & Doug Magic Set
Trip found this magic set at one of our favorite toy stores in College Station, and I was able to get it during a Melissa and Doug sale on Target's website a few weeks ago. He's also super into the Lego Nexo Knights sets, so Santa will probably deliver a set, too!
I hope you have a great weekend! Soccer games and crafting are on the agenda for our weekend- catch you back here on Monday for our weekend recap!
