Friday Favorites

Hello! I hope your week went by quickly! Thanks for joining me today as I share some of my favorites from the week!

Just a quick note before I share my favorites: I truly apologize if you happened to see an obscene and horribly disgusting comment left by an anonymous person the other day. I had always kept the comment moderation off because I think it allows for readers to visit other blogs that they might be interested in. Unfortunately, I have decided to turn on the comment moderation and will do my best to get comments published as quickly as I can. So sorry about that!

All right, onto the fun stuff!

1) Jerusalem

We are wrapping up our religions of the Middle East unit in my class, and last year, I found the IMAX and National Geographic film, Jerusalem. It is a great film that showcases three teen girls: one who is Jewish, one who is Christian, and one who is Muslim. They take you on a tour of the sights that are considered holy to their religion and you get a lot of background on why this city is so important to so many people. I'm not religious and still could appreciate the history and culture presented in the film. I'd definitely recommend it if you want to know more about the city from either a religious or historical view. You can watch the trailer HERE.

2) Gerry Brooks

Gerry Brooks is a principal at a school in the south. He has a YouTube channel where he shares hilarious suggestions for things like presents to give to teachers like Jars of Love, Google Teacher Translate to help teachers write notes home to parents, and even how to keep bears away from schools now that Betsy DeVos has brought us so much insight on this danger! Check out his channel, and be prepared to laugh until you cry!

3) Game Night

Everyone in my family had so much fun at our first game night with our friends last weekend! The next day, little Roo even said, "Last night was such a good time!" If you've got some great pals, start up a monthly game night- you're sure to have lots of cheap fun!

4) Garnier Fructis

I'm pretty sure the Guinness Book has a spot saved for me with the title, "World's Worst Hair!" I have at least 4 different textures going on, and I've tried EVERY hair product known to man with no success. Recently, I spotted Garnier Fructis Smooth Air Dry at the store and decided to try it out. Not only does it tame my craziness, it's under $4! I am in love! Garnier also makes a Smooth Blow Dry cream that I may try out, too. If you've been looking to fight your frizz, definitely give this a shot!

5) Havana Oak

I love the Signature Soy candle brand at Target. I personally prefer more masculine scents, but as we move into spring and summer, the tobacco and patchouli smells might be a bit much. Enter the Havana Oak candle! It's a lighter version, like the spring-time cousin of the Weathered Oak candle. Don't forget to check your Cartwheel app- these go on sale a lot!

  2. Oh my word, I am SO glad you posted those hair products, because I had seen them somewhere but couldn't remember who posted them, haha! I'm with ya in the hair department, I have super fine but curly hair. However it takes a lot of work to get the curls to look cute so half the time I go straight.

  4. Another Garnier Fructis product that you may want to try is the Sleek and Shine shampoo. I started using it several years ago and absolutely LOVE it.

  6. Happy Friday, Allie! I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate comment. I didn't see it, thankfully. Take heart, you are doing a great job and your opinions are valued! I love a good game night! My family has been doing puzzles together recently. And I also definitely have to try that hair product! My hair is crazy dry and frizzy! Hope you have a great weekend and Super Bowl celebration (if you do that!)! -Sara

  7. Thanks for the candle recommendation! I'm always on the hunt for a new one and like knowing it's already been "tested". I didn't see the comment, but UGH...how annoying. I had to turn on the moderations functions as well because I kept getting these weird, obviously spam type comments that made little to no sense. (most of them on the same post from the same odd name...I'd delete it and BOOOM, it would be back in a week. So frustrating. Have a great weekend Allie!

    1. It's a great film for kids, too. The 3 girls in the film all look very similar so it's great for students to get a don't judge a book by it's cover lesson. Have a great weekend!

  10. Sorry you got a bad, anonymous comment. I didn't see it, but they are never fun!

I saw Jerusalem at my local museum and it was great, whether you are religious or not! That's the one Benedict Cumberbatch narrates right?

    1. Yes, it is. The cinematography is gorgeous, but after getting pictures from my student recently who visited, I know that the filmmakers really didn't filter much! Beautiful!

    1. I can't think of the name right now, but there's a navy blue one they have out in the summer- something Harbor- and it's so perfect for creating a beachy feel without the typical fruity scents. Thanks for stopping by!
