Life With the Lees: Weekend Recap 2.20.17

Oh hello there holiday Monday! I hope you got to sleep in like the kids and I did this morning! Robert had to work, so we're taking care of dentist appointments and chores today.

I couldn't go back to sleep when I woke up super early on Friday morning, so I baked up some of Beth at Reaching Beyond Mediocrity's banana bread for my people.

After a LONG week of work and meetings, a rainy Friday called for ponytail hair.

After school on Friday, we hit up our Target to take care of errands. The kids spent the night at our friends' house so Robert and I could rest up for our 5K the next day, and when we picked them up, Ari cried because she had so much fun, she didn't want to leave! :)

We completed our superintendent's 5K on Saturday morning, and I'm officially done running until Thanksgiving! Hallelujah!

Wet hair, didn't care- we needed FOOD! Picked up these aviators from the $3 bin at Target on Friday night. They're a little big, but they're fun for the pool!

We fueled up with some BBQ and ate al fresco since the temps were back in the 80s.

Yes, we're those people. Sorry! The kids "fought" when we stopped for bread flour at the grocery store. The swords didn't make it home, but some $2 hula hoops did!

Lindsay at Lindsay's Sweet World had been posting on Instagram about Gigi's Cupcakes, and I remembered that we have one down the road. We had never tried them, so after our 5K, I felt a cupcake was well deserved. Ari picked the strawberry shortcake, Robert got the carrot cake, and Trip and I split the chocolate and the cookie dough. Apparently the strawberry and carrot cake were really good. I thought the cookie one was dry. The chocolate cake was moist, but I couldn't finish an entire cupcake (and at over 700 calories each, I shouldn't!) If we go back, we'll just get minis.

We opted to make homemade pizza for dinner, so after lunch, I made some fresh pizza dough. I may have made too much!

The boys and girls split up in the afternoon to run some more errands. Roo and I stopped by Marshall's, and since I'm in need of a new spring wreath, I picked up this one for $20. I usually have to spend more than that to make my own from scratch, so I think I'll just add a pretty bow to the top or bottom and call it a day with a semi-homemade wreath instead.

I read a little by the pool while Ari snacked and Jagger basked in the sun.

After dinner, Ari picked The Legend of Tarzan for our movie night and proceeded to walk around like a gorilla the rest of the evening.

I had a hard time sleeping in on Sunday and headed to the grocery store to do my errands before 7 a.m. When I got home, the kids and I helped Robert clean up our backyard and take care of our neighbor's yard. After lunch, I got to work on making cupcake toppers for Ari's upcoming birthday party. I never want to cut another circle in my life!

We stopped by the library and had a happy hour snack from Sonic. Ari loves to read the stories in the Dick & Jane books. She is becoming such a great reader!

We spent the rest of the afternoon lounging, and the boys caught up on Forged In Fire. We're putting out our Easter decorations today and trying to get as far ahead in our week's chores as we can with the extra day off. I hope you are enjoying a day of relaxation, and I'll see you back here tomorrow for the newest workout in my Tuesday Training series. See you soon!

  1. What a great weekend!! I whipped up some banana bread Saturday night because people were coming over, and I needed a quick snack! Awesome job on completing the 5k!! Perhaps you will consider running a bit over the summer and not wait until Thanksgiving! 😀 I'm not sure where you live, but I really enjoy visiting a Gigi's cupcakes while visiting family in TN; however, I would agree that a lot of their cupcakes were kind have dry with lots of icing! Have a great Monday off!! I'm putting out decorations too!!

    1. I used to be a runner, but my bones and body just can't handle it 12 months out of the year! I'm going to have to keep searching for the perfect cupcake! Your banana bread is perfection- my friend is going through chemo, and she loved having a slice for a pick me up.

  3. You packed a lot in this weekend. CONGRATS on your 5K...That's AWESOME! I'm so jealous you have a pool. I'd probably never get anything done because I'd live out there. I totally agree on the cost of wreaths. Your new one is pretty. My front door is naked at the moment and I need something to bring it to life. I'd better get cracking on that. Enjoy your day off!!!

    1. Thanks, Lisa! We love our pool. It is a definite key to relaxation (and so is having a pool guy who takes care of it for us!) Now I've got to watch some YouTube bow making videos!

  4. Are you loving this weather or what? I mean I know I am in NC and you are out west but c'mon we have twinsie weather. Also, I love cheap bin aviators...my regular sunglasses are overpriced designer ones my mom bought me for my birthday (thanks mama) but a pair of cheapo aviators makes me feel good! Reading by the pool...yeah that. I'm so glad your weekend was good! We have Gigi's Cupcakes here so now I'm wondering if this is a chain because the logo is the same. Hmmmm?!?!

    1. Yes, Gigi's is a chain, but I think I'm still on the hunt for the perfect cupcake. It'd be nice if I could make it myself! Gotta love fancy presents that you don't have to pay for!
