Try It Thursday: Italian Sloppy Joes

Hi! Today I'm sharing my take on The Pioneer Woman's Italian Sloppy Joes. I've made her version from scratch, and it's great! However, if you don't have a lot of time to get dinner on the table, try my version. I grew up on Prego sauce, and over the years, I've grown to not love it so much. We've tried Emeril's sauce and didn't like it, either. We're liking the Barilla sauce now, but if you have suggestions, please let me know in the comments!

* 1 pound ground beef
* 1 small yellow onion, diced
* Olive oil
* Salt
* Pepper
* Italian seasonings
* Garlic powder
* Crushed red pepper flakes
* 1 jar marinara sauce (We used Barilla Traditional Marinara.)
* Garlic toast (We used New York Texas Toast.)

* Heat a dash of olive oil over medium high and saute the diced onion.
* At this time, you will probably want to turn your oven on as the garlic toast requires a high temperature.

* Add your ground beef to brown.
* Drain the meat and return to the pan. Season the meat with salt, pepper, and other seasonings to taste.

* Add a jar of marinara sauce and heat until bubbling.

* While the meat and sauce are cooking, pop your toast into the oven.

* When your toast is done, assemble your sandwiches! We usually load our beef on top of a piece of toast and then throw on some mozzarella and parmesan. If that makes your toast too soggy, you can always do what Ari does and eat yours in a bowl with the toast torn up on top. Enjoy!

See you tomorrow for Friday Favorites!

  1. I'm not a fan of regular sloppy joe's, but this looks like a nice twist. Especially with garlic bread!

    1. Everything is better with garlic bread! :)

  2. This looks delicious! Love adding the mix to garlic toast, yum!

  3. That looks so delicious served on top of that yummy bread!!! I love the Pioneer Woman!

    1. I love her, too! My mom hates her, so I always serve her something and when she really likes it, she gets so mad that I tell her it's a PW dish!

  4. Margaret loves sloppy joes. I'll have to try this one!

    1. For sure! The Pioneer Woman's is really yummy; I just don't have that much time on a weeknight.

  5. This looks like just the kind of meal my kids would love. Easy and no complaints at dinnertime- sign me up! Thanks for the recipe.

  6. My husband was just saying we should do "Spaghetti Sandwiches" with garlic bread for the bread and spaghetti meat and sauce for the filling -- I kind of made fun of the idea, but who knew it was actually a thing? I like the idea of doing it open faced like this and just having the one slice of bread instead of two. Sounds like a super quick and easy meal that my whole family would love! As for spaghetti sauce, Classico is my favorite brand!

    1. Oh good! Hope you guys like it! I'll have to try Classico the next time I'm at the store! Thanks for the recommendation!

Hi friends! Let me know what you think! I'd love to hear from you!
