Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, everyone! A few weeks back, I had a bit of time to sit down and do some planning, so if you don't mind, my Friday Favorites posts may be themed for a little while. Also, to all of my blogging lovelies, please forgive my delay in checking blogs and commenting- my mornings have had me out of whack lately, and I sometimes am not able to hop onto the blogs until the evening! So sorry!

Today I wanted to share all about my favorite fragrances of my past. Unfortunately, all fragrances are just that- in my past. About a decade ago, I started getting horrible migraines each month, and I'm now super sensitive to smells, which is really sad because I loved perfumes. If I could wear perfume, I would totally wear Prada Candy all the time. I even tried spritzing a small amount the last time I was at Ulta, and I didn't last long. :(

So if you love fragrances, take a walk down memory lane with me...

1) Lolita Lempicka

Lolita Lempicka was my first real fragrance! I remember smelling it in my mom's magazines and then trying it out when the Sephora store first opened at the Houston Galleria. The family I babysat for bought me a rollerball of it for my 8th grade graduation, and I felt oh so fancy! It's funny to see that it is now carried at Target instead of Sephora!

According to the Lolita Lempicka website, the perfume is as follows, "Elegant floral notes, a mingling of Ivy, Aniseed and Violet. Utterly delicious aromas composed of Amarena Cherry, Vanilla, Praline and Tonka Bean. Sensual touches are brought by Iris and Musk... Licorice blossom is born. In its trail, this gourmand floral is eternally intoxicating. You are now ready to be desired!" Lolita Lempicka is available on Target's site HERE

2) Anna Sui Sui Dreams

In high school, I switched things up and asked for Anna Sui fragrance for Christmas. Anna Sui was a cool, funky fashion designer popular in the 90s and 2000s, and I loved her Sui Dreams fragrance!

The Anna Sui website describes Sui Dreams as follows, "The scent plays on a harmonious multiplicity that is warm and fresh, rich and transparent, sweet scented and sparkling. It is a delightful dream, full of fantasy and sensual innocence that only Anna can make happen. A fruity sparkling combination of citrus celebrating freshness. Exotic, floral richness arises from a mix of sumptuous Chinese Peony, Freesia and discreet white flowers. Fresh shinning Anise seeds enlighten the whole perfume. Sensuous Vanilla intense milky sandalwood and rare cedarwood add depthness and create a beautiful, seductive softness." You can find Sui Dreams on Amazon HERE.

3) Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue

The summer before my freshman year of college, I was hooked on the Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue smell coming from my fashion magazines. I felt very sophisticated buying something from the D&G powerhouse!

Sephora describes the scent as follows, "A stunning perfume, overwhelming and irresistible like the joy of living. The scent is surprisingly colored with the liveliness of Sicilian citron, the happiness of Granny Smith apple, and the spontaneity of bluebells. Feminine and resolute notes are expressed with the intensity of jasmine, the freshness of bamboo, and the charm of white rose. The deep and true base embodies the character of cedarwood, the fullness of amber, and the embrace of musk."

Are you noticing that I like musk and cedarwood!? Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is available at Sephora

4) Givenchy Very Irresistible

I first smelled Givenchy Very Irresistible at a friend's house in college. This was quite a departure for me as it's top notes include a variety of roses. My grandma always wore Tea Rose, and I HATED that smell!

Sephora descrirbes the scent as follows, "An homage to Givenchy's early days when fashion and cinema were intertwined, Very Irr├ęsistible Givenchy unites the elegant tradition of French style with the energy and pop-culture pizzazz of American film. Bursting with roses and infused with star anise and verbena leaf, Very Irr├ęsistible Givenchy is a fresh departure from the traditional floral fragrance."

This was my last "high-end" fragrance before my allergies gave in! Givenchy Very Irresistible is available at Sephora HERE.

5) Bath and Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom

And then of course, I got a teaching gig and realized I couldn't really afford to keep up with my perfume obsessions, so I did what any reasonable 20-something would do and switch to Bath and Body Works sprays! I've always loved their Japanese Cherry Blossom scent, and I found that it wasn't irritating to others!

B&BW describes the scent as follows, "An oh-so-fresh blend of Japanese cherry blossoms, crisp pears, mimosa petals & sweet sandalwood." See? I returned to the sandalwood, musky scents! In case you're ever buying me a candle, get me something that smells like a man!

Oddly enough, men's cologne does not incite agonizing headaches in me, so Robert wears the store's C.O. Bigelow Elixir White and C.O. Bigelow Elixir Blue. Bath and Body Works' Japanese Cherry Blossom is available HERE

Tell me what your favorite scent is in the comments below, and if you have any tricks to help me overcome my perfume poisoning, please tell me!

Try It Thursday: Elephant Ear Palmiers

Hi there! Brunch, baby shower, and wedding shower season is upon us my friends! This is not my recipe at all- it's the fabulous Barefoot Contessa's. If you need a light cookie to serve or give out as a shower favor, Ina's cinnamon elephant ears aka palmiers are super easy and tasty to boot! Scroll on down and see how easy this pastry is to make!

Never fear! If your sugar carmelized a little too much, grab your cheese grater or microplane and get to work on the black spots. Nobody will know!

Ingredients:
* 1 cup sugar
* Kosher salt (I used sea salt.)
* 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
* 1 sheet of defrosted puff pastry

Directions:
* Preheat your oven to 450 degrees.
* Pour 1/2 cup of sugar onto your work surface. I usually put down wax paper or parchment paper first. Sprinkle a little bit of salt onto the sugar.
* Open up your puff pastry sheet on top of the sugar.
* In a bowl, mix together another 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon.
* Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture all over the puff pastry.
* You can either use your rolling pin directly onto the pastry, or if you're like me and like to keep things clean, put a piece of parchment paper on top of the pastry and roll it out.
* Roll the pastry into a square approximately 13 inches.
* Fold the edges about 1/3 of the way in.
* Fold those edges another 1/3 of the way in so they meet in the middle.
* Fold one half on top of the other.
* Ina says to cut the dough into 3/8 inch sections. You can cut as thick or thin as you want. I cut my dough so that it makes approximately 15 cookies.
* Lay the cookies flat onto a parchment lined cookie sheet so you can visibly see the heart shape.
* Bake the cookies for about 6 minutes or until they are brown on the bottom.
* Pull the cookies out of the oven and flip over. Return to the oven for another 3 to 5 minutes.
* Store in an airtight container. These will keep for about 4 days.

*** Did you see my ugly batch in the pictures? If your sugar carmelized more than you'd like, get out your cheese grater or microplane and scrape off any unwanted parts. Nobody will know!

What's Up Wednesday: March 2017

Happy Wednesday! Thanks for joining me today as I link up with Mel, Shay, and Sheaffer to share a wrap-up of our March. Make sure to link-up with us and share your month!

What we're eating this week...
Baseball practice has started, and swim team is right around the corner, so I've made sure that my meal plans are in place. I have also set up our weeks to cook a meal in our Crock-pot on Sundays so that it is ready to go for Monday. This week we had a pot roast- a little comfort food to get the week started! Check out the recipe HERE. You can view all of my Try It Thursday recipes on THIS Pinterest page. Make sure you link up with me on Thursdays to share your favorite recipes of the week!

Last night, I made Andrea Nine's Asian soft chicken tacos, and they were awesome! We made them with ground pork, and I kid you not, one picky princess ate all of her dinner, and the other kid literally licked his plate and asked for seconds. Check out Andrea's recipe HERE

What I'm reminiscing about...
Easter will be here soon, and I just love these pictures from our pachangas of years past!

What I'm loving...
Target's shoe game is strong right now! I bought THESE pink sneakers a few weeks back and am loving them!

I have THESE sandals in my cart online and am waiting for a sale to hit so I can purchase them.

And, I'm also waiting to pick up THESE sandals for Ari.

What we've been up to...
This last weekend, we hosted a bunch of our neighbors for a brunch. We've done a whole lot of baking lately, and I'm excited to share some brunch recipes with you in the next few weeks for my Try It Thursday recipe link-up. I hope you'll join me!

What I'm dreading...
I definitely love watching my kids play their sports, but the practice, game, and meet schedules can be overwhelming at times. Spring also brings field trips, school projects, and musical performances. My goal for this spring is to not have anyone tell me this:

What I'm working on...
We did a whole lot of organizing over spring break, so now, I've got projects to complete (and by me, I mean Robert!) We've bought giant Lego baseplates to turn into a table for the kids to build on in their game room upstairs like this:

And we're planning to build Ari a zoo cage to house all of her stuffed animals like this:

What I'm excited about...
I got my first Sephora Play! subscription box a few weekends ago, and I'm planning to do a review next Wednesday, so make sure you stop back by here to see what was in my box and how it all worked out!

What I'm reading...
I am finishing up Laura Bush's autobiography right now (yes, I was reading this last month- I'm a slow reader and haven't been able to commit to the 20 minutes of reading every night!), and when I'm done, I have The Engagements by J. Courtney Sullivan on my shelf. I'm reading all of the books that I've purchased in the past decade and either never touched or started and never finished before I start up with the new stuff.

What I'm listening to...
I've been playing Pandora's 90's Pop station a lot lately. Mine actually plays more "alt rock" than pop, but I love it. Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, Train, Hootie and the Blowfish, etc. One of my absolute favorites from the era is Blind Melon's "No Rain." Remember the video with the bumblebee girl?!

What I'm wearing...
Over spring break, I decided to go through my closet and start grouping outfits together for a few weeks of school outfits. This has gotten me to wear pieces that I forgot that I had or find new ways to wear some pieces. I've definitely been wearing dresses a lot lately because it's already in the 80s and 90s here in Houston.

Outfit details in THIS WIWW post

This dress is from Old Navy last year, but they have lots of similar styles this season.

I love this dress from Old Navy! I got lots of compliments on it last week, and it can be worn dressed up or down.

Holly at Pink Lady told me to try blush with navy blue, so I listened, and I loved it!

Apparently the 90s are back with super faded jeans!

What we're doing this weekend...
Ari has her first baseball game! It's going to be so fun to see her out there playing her heart out!

What I'm looking forward to...
Summer is right around the corner! Spring break really gave us a great taste of the joys of summer freedom, and my students and I have a countdown going on, and we can't believe we're already in the homestretch. This year has gone by so quickly! While I love my job and students, having multiple weeks off is an amazing feeling!

What else is new...
Robert and I recently started watching Tim Allen's Last Man Standing and it's hilarious! We've been watching 2 episodes before bed each night. And now that I have my DVR app on my phone, I've been able to knock out a bunch of my shows while I cook and clean or get ready in the morning. I'm so excited for Real Housewives of New York and Potomac to come back, plus Southern Charm and Below Deck! (I obviously don't have a problem with reality television!)

Question of the month: What's your favorite spring wardrobe piece?
I would say there are 3 staples in my closet that are pretty much on repeat in the spring and summer (and yes, they're all from Target!)

I have this tee in probably 10 colors. I feel like there are a lot more color options in the stores than available online, and they go on sale all of the time.

I have these shorts in about 5 different colors, and again, they always go on sale or run a BOGO deal.

I have these sandals or Merona's similar styles from previous seasons in black, brown, and pewter. I wear them all of the time, and they're cheap enough to replace every year (or every other year).
