Friday Favorites

It's Friday! It's spring break! It's documentary day in my class! BEST DAY EVER! Thanks for joining me today as I share some of my favorites from the week!

1) Maybelline Fit Me Blush

While I do love my Cover Girl Cheekers blush, with the spring season in full bloom, I've been reaching for a more coral blush. I'm loving Maybelline's Fit Me Blush in Deep Coral. It's perfect for fair-skinned girls like me, and there's just a hint of gold shimmer that doesn't make you look like a teeny-bopper. Check out my other makeup favorites in THIS post!

2) School time with my own kids

I have used some of my personal days at work to take care of appointments and such this year, but I also got to surprise Trip last week at his lunch time. He was so surprised, and it was nice to be able to do something with him in his school. Since I had the day off, I took the kids for an ice cream treat at our local boardwalk. Earlier this week, I took a day to chaperone Ari's preschool field trip to the zoo. We had a great time, and it was so fun to see her with her classmates! I'm fortunate that the kids' teachers are very understanding that my job requires me to be there most of the time, and it was nice to be invited to chaperone since I don't get to come to school during the day. I'll be taking one more day at the end of the month to chaperone Trip's class to the butterfly exhibit at our local science museum!

3) Ms. Susan

We had a very bittersweet week as Wednesday would have been my sweet neighbor, Ms. Susan's, birthday. Ms. Susan was a retired elementary school teacher who treated us as her family. She was a bonus grandma to Trip and Ari, and she was always bringing us treats. We enjoyed visiting with her at dinners and brunches, and I loved that she just jumped in the pool with the kids on the 4th of July! I think we had a special connection to Ms. Susan- she was born the day before Ari's birthday and passed the day after mine. She collected friends everywhere she went (even the ladies at Bath and Body Works knew her by name!) Ms. Susan was such a great example of kindness and compassion, and we miss her every day.

I've had three recent encounters with ladybugs when I was doing something that was related to Ms. Susan, so the kids and I are convinced that ladybugs are now her way of saying hello! :)

4) Ari's birthday

I think this chica has managed to stretch out her birthday into a whole week of celebration, but she totally deserves it! You can read all about how she came to be our little girl in yesterday's post HERE. We celebrated on Saturday with a Biker Babe Birthday Brunch theme, and last night, we went out to James Coney Island (her choice) for a hot dog dinner! She asked to go bowling, so we're planning to hit the lanes this weekend to wrap up our celebrations. I'll be posting all about the Roo's birthday party on Wednesday, so make sure you come back to check that out!

5) Storyline Online

A friend of mine recently shared about Storyline Online. Given how much Ari enjoys listening to audiobooks during our hour long drive home after school, I decided to check it out. It's FABULOUS! Actors from the SAG read a book and the pictures from the book become a little animated. The actor then shares a little bit at the end about the message or moral of the story. Both of my kids have asked to pick out a reading video to watch when I am getting dinner ready, so if you have little ones, you should definitely give this a try. Another bonus is that you could totally let your kids watch this at the doctor's office instead of sticking a game in their hands!

Don't forget to link up with me and the ladies of Moms' Coffee Date THIS Thursday the 16th for our Ladies Who Link party! We're sharing our go-to Crock-pot recipes!

    1. She was a sweet lady! Well if it makes you feel better, I spend 40 hours a week with tweens. Spring break was possibly created to give teachers their sanity back!

  6. Happy spring break! The story about your neighbor just made me tear up, I get so emotional over things like that. I believe in nature as being a way for our loved ones to say hi and I see you! One grandma is birds and the other is butterflies for me. I hope your weekend and week is so awesome and leads to more boardwalk ice cream trips! It is going to snow here so I am entering a depression and stocking up on tequila. HA! xoxoxo

  7. So happy you get to spend some special time with your kids at school activities. I always love it when I see teacher friends have had the day off to be "mom"❤️ Go Ari stretching that birthday into a week. At our house it's always referred to all week as "The birthday season". Enjoy your spring break!!! Oh, and I like the looks of that blush...think I'll check it out😉 I know you and I use similar pink ones. Mine is the smaller cheeckers (#105) and it has a slight shimmer that I think yours doesn't...just fyi👍🏼

  11. Hi Allie! I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to swing by your blog. Thank you so much for comments on mine. I work for a hospital and due to patient privacy, my internet access is limited and every time I click on your name, it says my access is denied. My daughter usually has my laptop at night, so I don't get on much at night. Having said all that, HELLO! Love your blog and I hope you have a great weekend!
