Friday Favorites

Aloha everyone! Raise your hand if you need a vacation! Me! Me! Pick me!

Today, I'm sharing some of my top picks for the spring-almost-summer season. Here goes!

1) Glasses

A few years ago, I just went to Target Optical and picked out some random glasses. They cost me an arm and a leg, and I didn't love them. I wore them for a while, but when my prescription changed, I looked for something new. One of my students came in with the cutest glasses, and she told me she got them at Walmart! So off I went! I got a pair of their store brand, DNA and have loved them! A few months ago, I decided that I wanted to add a pair to my repertoire and decided that navy blue was the way to go. I headed back to Walmart and picked out a pair from Hard Candy. I can't find the exact pair online, but Walmart glasses are pretty high quality at an exceptional price. If you're in the market for a new pair of glasses, stop by Wallie World and see if there's something that strikes your fancy!

2) Nail Polish

I haven't been as adventurous in painting my nails this spring as I was in the fall, but my toes have gotten lots of love since it's sandal season here in Houston! My absolute favorite nail polish is the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri line because I am the most impatient person and hate to wait for my nails to dry. I love her Insta-Dri Top Coat for any color that I wear- it keeps my polish on longer and lets me get on with my life quicker than other brands. My "signature" nail color is "Petal Pusher." It's basically a ballet slipper pink and looks great on any skin tone!

3) Go Blonder

I started coloring my hair after my freshman year of high school and had to color every month! About 3 years ago, I decided to stop coloring forever and started using John Frieda's Go Blonder Spray a few times a week. This has been a game changer for me- no more money and time spent coloring my hair EVERY month. If you're a bottle blonde, give this a shot this summer and see if it works for you!

4) Shampoo & Conditioner

I have fine, frizzy hair. I'm still on the hunt for the ultimate product to turn my mess into gorgeousness. Until that time comes, I'm hooked on everything by Garnier! I especially love the Full & Plush line. I use the shampoo and conditioner, and I've noticed a difference in my volume. It also smells great (pomegranate) and costs a lot less than salon brands. I hadn't seen some of these other products pictured above in my stores, so I may check them out online to see if the whole system turns out to be my winning combination!

5) Astringent

I used to use astringent on my face because I had horrible cystic acne. After discovering my favorite skincare products in THIS blog post, I said goodbye to astringent on my face. However, I've kept a bottle of Clean & Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent around for other areas. I often break out on the backs of my legs, and I've found that using this has helped diminish the spots. I also use this on the bikini line to help prevent red bumps and irritation. It works wonders for me!

  1. Girl, sounds like our hair is identical!! What I wouldn't love to get up and go, it takes so much effort to get my hair to look nice, lol!! I love Sally Hanson too, my fave is the Miracle Gel line. However, I splurged and bought a bottle of Essie and I must say, it's worth it! I painted my nails on Sunday night and last night I did another coat over that!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. You know, I tried an Essie polish at the nail salon a few years ago and it didn't seem to last as long as OPI normally does for my toes. I do love the colors in Essie- a cheapie but a goodie is also Sinful nail colors. I love a neon pink in the middle of summer!

  2. I have fine, frizzy and now wavy hair too! Can't figure out if it is because of age or some medical treatments I have been having via infusion for the last few years. I have found the Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight to be very helpful.

    1. You know, my hair texture changed dramatically when I was on Accutane and my hair fell out of my head. Then when I got colitis and started a bunch of different meds, I noticed my hair was kind of all over the place too. Thanks for the Aveda recommendation! Have a nice weekend!

  5. Love that nail polish - I'm the same way when it takes too long to dry! I swear after 10 minutes, when I think they're dry they still get smudged so I totally love the Insta-dry! And that color is amazing! Have fun this weekend :)

    1. I got into a habit of doing my nails on Friday nights just before bed so that I wouldn't manage to smudge them. I need to start that back up!

  6. I love the insta dri polish, but have never realized there is a top coat! I need that, I NEVER paint my nails one because I am lazy, and two because I can never predict if a kiddo will wake up or demand something ;-) Happy Friday, friend!

    1. I think the top coat is what makes the polish so amazing- I use it with other polishes too. And yes- one of my kids is always guaranteed to need me to do something when I'm painting my nails!

  7. We love the Sally Hansen Insta-dri too. So the go blonder...do you use in the sun? I think Katie would love it. We tried Sun In or something a few years ago, but maybe I should get her a bottle of this before we head to the beach. Happy Friday!

    1. It's actually heat activated, so I put it on before I do a blow out or use my straightener. Once you start using it and get the color you're after, you only really need it once a week or so to maintain.

  8. Girl, that Sally Hansen Insta Dri is all I use anymore! I tried one about two years ago and never looked back! I'm way too impatient to be waiting for polish to dry!

    1. She has really pretty fall/winter colors too! Sometimes I wish they carried more of the crazy colors for Ari, but we love Sinful nail polish for the funky colors.

    1. Thanks, Jillian! I think the quality is very similar to OPI but for a fraction of a price. Hope you have had a great weekend!

  10. I pay my colorist a lot of money for her expertise but your hair color is great so maybe I'll give that spray a try. It would be great to not have to pay boat loads of money to cover all of my grays.

  11. How does that blonde stuff work? If I have natural blonde-ish highlights in the summer will it brighten them up?! Stopping over from the link up - hope you can hop by my blog too! Have a great weekend. http://www.confessionsofanorthernbelle.com/2017/04/friday-favorites-77/

  12. I'm going to have to try Walmart for my next pair of glasses! Those are so cute! And I used to love John Frieda hair products and I stopped using them for some reason, I don't know why! I'll have to pick that up again!

    1. I'm considering trying those $12 aviators that a lot of bloggers have from Nordstrom. The $3 ones from Target this year have been XL and look a little crazy on me.

  14. Okay... so I bought that exact same insta-dri polish (color and all) last weekend... and I was amazed at how BIG the brush seemed. And it was so hard for me to paint my nails and have it not look like a 3 year old did them... so... give me your trips and tricks? I'm impatient too so that was the draw for me, too... lol!

    1. You know, I feel like that was a bit of a problem when I started using the brand a few years ago. I guess I wipe a lot off of the brush before going to the nail and do very thin layers.
