Show & Tell Tuesday: Prom(s)

Hi! Thanks for joining me today as I link up with Andrea at Momfessionals for the latest installment of Show and Tell Tuesday! Today, we're talking prom. Get ready to transport back in time to 2003 and 2004! Ready!?

When I was a junior, I dated a guy who went to a private, all-boys school. So when he was a senior, I went to his prom. I didn't really go to any of the dances in high school and didn't do cotillion or National Charity League or anything like that.

My mom took me to Macy's and had me try on a million dresses. I'm usually one for shopping but I think we completely disagreed on styles, and considering that I'm 5'1'', evening dresses can get pretty complicated. I finally gave up and gave into my mom's pick, a black satin Jessica McClintock (remember her!?) strapless dress with rhinestones all over. It was a tea-length dress, and my mother quickly converted it into a dress with straps! Ha!

I actually had a tan in high school, can you believe it!? The prom was fine- I became insanely self-conscious in high school and didn't really like to dance, so it wasn't that exciting. I think I ate lobster bisque for the first (and last) time at our dinner because our group went to some uber-fancy restaurant and I was starving, so I had to at least try something!

The boyfriend didn't last forever, and for my senior year, I took my then ex-boyfriend's friend and my friend took my ex. I actually kind of love my senior prom dress- it's still in my closet waiting to be worn to another black-tie event, because, you know, those happen often around here- NOT! I picked it out on my own at Buffalo Exchange, and better yet, it was a Tadashi Shoji dress! (I used to be a fashion junkie back in the day. Then I grew up and realized how much it costs to do things like eat and live!) It was a little long, and I didn't want to get it altered, so I had to buy insanely high heels. I got my makeup done at the Laura Mercier counter at Neiman's and felt very glam!

Black liner and CZ hoops for the win!

Geraldine's prom dress made an appearance in the movie Saved! with Mandy Moore that spring, too! Trendsetting even in high school, G!

Because it's Texas- why wouldn't I take a date who wore a Texas flag bowtie and wore a cowboy hat? We went in a fairly large group and had to rent a bus which was supposed to be nice but felt more like being shuttled to the airport parking lot! We had dinner at Buca di Beppo and then ended up walking around mostly barefoot at the fancy hotel where the dance was because who can stand, let alone walk and dance in 4" spike heels!?

And although I don't talk to that date or the majority of the people in these pictures anymore, my date turned out to be the person who introduced me to my now forever date, Robert! (Cue the audience, "Awwww!")

Not the most exciting recap for you, but if you're like me and are working to shimmy back into some beloved pieces of your past, check out my Tuesday Training sessions! You can view today's post HERE!

I'm back tomorrow when I'm linking up with Shay and Erika for their monthly Workin' It Wednesday series, and if you love a link-up or Target or BOTH, then make sure you link up with me and my friends over at Moms' Coffee Date, Coast to Coast, Mommy In A Nutshell, and Pink Lady next week for our Ladies Who Link party! 1. I miss the days of Seventeen Magazine! (and bridal magazines for that matter!) Girls don't even get excited about the newest issues of magazines because they can just peruse millions of dresses on Pinterest or Google these days! I can't believe you found the dress! That's awesome!
