Friday Favorites

Helloooo Friday! After a few days of standardized testing, I am in desperate need of a weekend!

Have you waited until the last minute to either buy a Mother's Day gift or ask for something for yourself? If you read my post from Monday, then you saw that my gift this year didn't pan out. My mom is easy to buy for because she always wants a gift card. I took advantage of a Cartwheel deal and picked up a new robe for myself. I also have had my eye on an Instant Pot, so I picked one up online with the Target gift card promotion. Please send me your favorite Instant Pot recipes in the comments! I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Here are some other gifts that I've enjoyed receiving over the years:

1) Personalized jewelry

There are tons of options out there for personalized jewelry, but my favorite is this bar necklace on Etsy. I had mine personalized with the kids' nicknames: Doodle & Roo.

2) Chore list

I would love to make a list of my weekend chores and have my husband and kids tackle it for me. Getting a day or two off from dishes, laundry, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, etc. would be such a treat! Also, we have been discussing the idea of hiring a cleaning lady to just come once a month. If you hire outside help, what's the going rate in your area?

3) Sweet treats

Speaking of treats, I show people my love by cooking and baking. I have students who stop by the coffee shop and pick up a chocolate croissant for me from time to time, and the little surprise just makes my whole day! If you're not a baker or chef, make sure you stop by mom's favorite bakery or breakfast place to pick up some treats for her day!

4) Mani/pedi

Are there any ladies out there who dislike getting a manicure or pedicure? Now I don't want to go on Mother's Day weekend when everyone and their mom (see what I did there!?) will be there, but setting up an appointment or purchasing a gift card to mom's favorite nail salon or spa is usually a safe bet.

5) Mom's choice

This one is going to be controversial. I usually like it when Robert keeps the kids so I can run the errands by myself and disappear in the clothing racks at Target. But, I do also love spending time with my crew, so instead of sending them off to do the errands for me, I'd like if everyone came along and pitched in with pushing carts, finding things on the list, etc. Another way to gift mom with her choice would be to let her have her pick of meals, restaurants, shops, and/or activities for the whole day and everyone goes along with happy and helpful attitudes!

Tell me in the comments below what you're asking for, giving, or hoping for this year!

  1. I'm with you on number 5! I don't know how to describe it. Sometimes I think I want to shop by myself but when I actually do it I miss my guys. I really just want to go out all together but without the whining OR have Kevin handle any whining/tears/begging for things we aren't buying (without a single complaint from him either). That's not too much to ask for right?

  2. My mom is SO hard to buy for! She does not like any kind of spa treatment (I'm not sure how I'm her daughter, lol!!) and isn't into clothing/accessories. I still don't have anything for her. :/

Have a wonderful Mothers Day Allie!!

    1. Well, my kids think I'm 96 years old (at least that's what I tell them) so one year, a boy brought me a bag of prunes because he said he knew old people needed prunes instead of apples! It was the funniest gift!

    1. I'm so excited about the Instant Pot but also a little nervous and intimidated by it. Hopefully I will get to make a meal or two in it by this time next week!

  8. All I want for Mother's Day is for my crew to be helpful and get along. Not having to cook dinner would be nice too. ;) Have a Happy Mother's Day!

    1. You're so right- aside from setting money away for the extra help, we also have to be careful and choose someone that is recommended and not a con artist!

  15. Hi,

I pay about $125 every other week for cleaning. Since we are in the middle of a major home renovation, our cleaning team has not been at our house since January...I have always appreciated what she does for us (she has been w us for 10 years) but since she has not been at our house, Running Daddy totally appreciates her magical team. We cannot wait for our house to be finished and have her back cleaning for us on a regular basis.

    1. Oh wow! Thanks for the info, Patty. If that's the going rate here for just every other week, then I think I'm telling my husband we're out on that. My aunt loves her cleaning lady, and I feel like it would be a great relief to come home to a sparkling home, but I don't want it to cause stress, too.

    2. Keep in mind that I live in Northern VA and the cost of living is fairly high here so that might be why that is the going rate around here.
