Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! Trip celebrated his last day of 2nd grade yesterday, and I have 5 more days 'til summer and my new gig!

Robert and I are coming up on our 9th wedding anniversary soon, and we still use a lot of the gifts we received. I thought it would be fun to share my top 5 picks to either add to your wedding registry or to purchase for any upcoming weddings.

1) Everyday dishes

I've never been one to pine after fancy china or teacups. When we registered, we opted to ask for Fiesta four piece place settings in turquoise. I absolutely love my Fiestaware! We have several extra serving pieces to go with our dishes, but I love that I can dress these dishes up or keep them super casual. If you're in the market for some new dishes, check out the entire Fiesta line at Macy's HERE.

2) Knife block

We have used our J.A. Henckels knife block every day for nearly a decade! This isn't our exact same block, but we definitely plan to stick with the brand when we need to upgrade in a few years. Any couple will find these super useful for dining on steaks, prepping for dinner, or putting the finishing touches on a dish.

3) Pyrex glassware

We received some Corningware dishes when we got married, but they arrived broken, and I never replaced them after returning them. A few weeks ago, Target had a sale on Pyrex dish sets, and I decided to scoop one up. I freaking love them! I use all of the dishes every week to help store leftovers, cut up fruits, or pre-made dinners from my Instant Pot. I have the 18 piece set now, and I'm thinking of getting the mixing bowl set soon, too!

4) Bedding

I absolutely love the sheets I received from Target for our wedding, and although I've tried out a few other brands, I keep coming back to Threshold sheets. They're a great value but also super comfortable and durable. Trip recently redid his bedding, and we picked out Threshold sheets for him, too!

5) Pots & pans

I accidentally burned onions in a stock pot over the Christmas holiday and was devastated to have to replace the pot as we've had it for almost a decade! When out searching for a replacement, I was super frustrated by the prices! I so appreciated receiving this investment piece as it really did last, and we've loved the Calphalon brand.

  3. Looks like we got the same gifts when we married! Except I didn't get Target sheets. Maybe its a regional thing? But here you get top of the line, never be able to afford them again linens and towels. To be honest they lasted 10 years and just got tossed a couple months ago! Of course now when I shop for showers I buck tradition and go to Target first LOL! Happy weekend!

    1. Target is great! We received towels from Lands End and Neiman Marcus, and I prefer the Target linens .

  4. I don't think that I have too many vestiges of my shower but the one day thing I hated replacing was my bedding. The bedding I got for my shower was gorgeous and such great quality. I feel you on the cost of pots and pans. I replaced
Mine a couple of years ago and it costs an arm and a leg.

    1. I think if I was half the cook I am today, I would've asked for a lot more kitchen gadgets and pots/pans- especially cast iron!

  5. I've never tried Target's sheets. I'll have to keep that in mind. My sister found sheets on Amazon that are around $24 and they're my favorite. I'm excited for you to finish up the school year and get to enjoy your summer. Have a great weekend! :)

    1. $24 is a great deal! We tried Fieldcrest at Xmas during a Target sale, and they were not the quality we expected. Happy Memorial Day to y'all!

  6. I've been wanting to add Fiestaware to my collection of dishes but I just don't "need" more dishes. I just bought the pyrex bowls within the last year. I need to use them more and I know I should really change to all glass containers for storage vs. all my plastic ones. I think I'm afraid I'll break them. Have a wonderful long weekend Allie!!!!

    1. Well if you don't use them, send them my way! I love the little ones for sauces and small leftovers, but I definitely love the 6+ cup ones to hold all of the week's fruits or main courses. I cooked another 2 meals in my Instant Pot today and need more storage!

  7. We have a knife block very similar to that one and I love it so much! I use it almost every single day. It has definitely been used well during our last nine years of marriage!

    1. Agreed! I've had to replace one of the steak knives, and I just replaced the shears, but other than that, I think going on a decade is pretty darn awesome!

  8. Love this post! Going on 12 years with my calphalon and it has been used a lot. I think it is totally worth the money.

Can't wait to hear about your new gig.

    1. Yes! They are a great brand- I found some for a decent price at Marshalls recently!

  9. I'm still using the dishes from my first marriage lol. I remember all my friends picking out fancy china and I grabbed plain white dishes with a scalloped edge and absolutely love them still. I definitely think I would have skipped all the dang crystal I got and trade for towels and sheets. Who knew how fast towels and sheets would wear out!! I think we should get to have showers for big anniversaries don't you??

    1. YES! My teacher friends have thrown me a few going away parties recently, and it was funny because it made me think that I haven't been the center of attention at a party since my last baby shower years ago! I loved that SATC episode where Carrie registered at Manolo Blahnik to have the lady buy her shoes!

  10. We also got Fiestaware for our wedding and I ended up selling them at a garage sale 10 years later. I could kick myself...

    Enjoy your weekend!!

    1. Oh no! I love it! My science teacher in high school brought in the Fiesta plates from a long time ago to show the amounts of uranium in them. Thankfully we didn't get any radioactive dishes! :)

  11. I love Pyrex dishes! We didn't register for them, but each Christmas they're on super sale, and we keep buying more and more! My favorite wedding gift is my Kitchenaid mixer!!

    1. Oh yea! I love my Kitchenaid mixer, too! When we got married, they only offered the white and silver stands, so I have a silver one. If we got married now, I would totally get the dark blue one or hot pink one! I also love the painted one that Pioneer Woman has in her kitchen.
