Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! Anybody else out there feeling like this? Ugh! Make them stop fighting about EVERYTHING!

While my children fighting isn't a favorite, I do have a random assortment of treasures for you today!

1) Xhilaration dress

I am loving the colors and patterns in the new Xhilaration dress line! I picked up THIS dress with the Cartwheel deal, plus my Red Card savings, and my Cartwheel Perks coupon, so I ended up getting it for $8 instead of $25! I was a little nervous since it is considered a body-con dress, but I sized up to give me some wiggle room (and because I always worry about the dryer!), and I love it! I can wear it now and in the fall. It can easily be belted or worn under a denim jacket.

2) Merona heels

Shelly at The Queen In Between has been raving about Target's shoes all season! I tried THESE on in the store, and they are currently on sale for $25. They're in my cart - should I pull the trigger? If you like them too, I'd suggest sizing a half size down.

3) Blue nail polish

I hopped on the blogger bandwagon and picked up a new blue nail polish. If you've read here long, then you know that I am not one to spend $10 on a bottle of nail polish. I love Sally Hansen Insta Dri, but I went with Sinful Colors and picked up Sail La Vie for just $2! I have always had success with Sinful, and I feel like they offer a wider range of colors than Sally Hansen. You can find it at Target, Walgreens, or your local grocery store.

4) Sunscreen pill

Have you heard of Heliocare? I went in for my annual skin check, and since I've had melanoma in the past, my dermatologist recommended that I start taking Heliocare. Apparently it's an over the counter supplement that is made of a special fern plant, and it is supposed to help give you added protection against the sun. My doctor reminded me that it is not in place of sunscreen but can be helpful for people who have a history of melanoma. I'm torn because it seems a little expensive and has mixed reviews, but at the same time, my doctor isn't making any commission since I'd have to buy it at Walgreens or on Amazon, so I feel like she was encouraging me to take it to truly help me. Do you have experience with Heliocare or know anyone who has used it?

5) Spread the love

Don't these look awesome? Find the recipe HERE!

I was super proud of Ari the other day. A few Christmases ago, we took appetizers and cookies to our local fire house. Ari randomly asked when we could take treats back to the firemen. I thought it was a great idea, and with the 4th of July coming up, it's the perfect time to treat some of the men and women who help keep our community safe, especially during the sometimes hazardous holiday. We're going to bake on Monday to drop off some fresh treats to the guys on call, and I encourage you to stop by your local firehouse with a plate or two to say thanks.

Try It Thursday: Pizza Dough

Hi everyone! Thanks for joining me for another week of Try It Thursday! Make sure you link up below to share your favorite recipe of the week.

Do you have one of those pizza your way restaurants? I've been to our local MOD Pizza twice in the past year, and I'm just not impressed. When I found Lauren's recipe for pizza dough, I knew I had to give it a try. Today's recipe is simply a reshare of Lauren's recipe, but I think you'll love using it to make your own pizzas and bread sticks! Scroll down for the recipe!

* 3 cups bread flour
* 2 Tablespoons olive oil
* 2 teaspoons salt
* 1 Tablespoon honey
* 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (I use Fleischmann's.)
* 1 cup warm water

* You will need a stand mixer with a dough hook.
* In the mixer's bowl, stir the yeast and honey into the warm water and let the mixture sit for 10 minutes.
* Mix in the salt and olive oil.
* Add 1 1/2 cups of bread flour and mix.
* Add the rest of the bread flour into the mix slowly until everything is incorporated. Lauren says the dough should be tacky but not sticky.
* Turn the mixer to medium speed for 6 minutes. The bowl will basically be clean by the time your dough has finished kneading.
* You can now divide the dough and freeze it for later or keep it in one bowl.
* Pour a little bit of olive oil in a bowl and grease your dough ball.
* Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise for 2 hours.
* Use the dough to make your favorite pizzas or bread sticks, and enjoy!

*** This recipe will make 2 medium sized pizzas. I have frozen the dough before, and it keeps just fine. To make pizza and breadsticks, you can turn your oven to 500 degrees and put your favorite pizzas in for about 6-8 minutes. My boys love pepperoni with sausage, and Ari and I like to make alfredo cheese pizza.

Pepperoni pizza

Alfredo cheese pizza

Garlic & cheese breadsticks

What are your favorite pizza toppings? Tell me in the comments below, and make sure to stop by the other bloggers. I'll see you back here tomorrow for another round of Friday Favorites, and don't forget to check out all of my Try It Thursday recipes on THIS Pinterest page. See you soon!

What's Up Wednesday: June 2017

Happy Wednesday! Thanks for joining me today as I link up with Mel, Sheaffer, and Shay to wrap-up June! My summer is already halfway over, so we're relishing as much pool time as we can. Make sure you link-up to share what's been going on in your world!

What we're eating this week...
We ended the weekend with BLT salads, and I roasted a chicken in my Instant Pot to use for quinoa bowls and quesadillas. We're going to finish the week with Italian Joes! Yum! If you love to share recipes, stop by tomorrow for my Try It Thursday link-up to share your favorite recipe of the week!

What I'm reminiscing about...
Last week was our 9th wedding anniversary, so a lot of my Facebook memory posts were wedding related. I shared all about our wedding for last week's Friday Favorites.

What I'm loving...
I'm making fresh salsa every Monday, and we love having it for an afternoon snack! You can make my recipe HERE!

What we've been up to...
Robert has had to go to the ranch the past few weekends, so I've gotten a lot of one-on-one time with each kiddo. We've been to the pool, had sleepovers, visited the science museum, eaten at favorite restaurants, and more!

What I'm dreading...
I'm so excited to take the kids to St. Louis next month, but we're getting to that point in the summer where they either love each other or hate each other just for being in the same room as the other. I don't know how the 12+ hour car ride is going to go.

What I'm working on...
My travel agent has booked our Disney 2018 vacation! I'm currently working on filling out a questionnaire so Dani can plan our itinerary. I definitely need your help in regards to restaurants. We are planning to go to Be Our Guest and T. Rex. Can you please tell me some of your favorite restaurants both in the park and at places like Disney Springs?

What I'm excited about...
If you read here often, you already know that I'm a one track mind and am stupid excited about our Disney trip. Even though we had it in the budget to stay at one of the fancier resorts, we're going to save some money and stay at a moderate resort and use the extra money to plan another family vacation for a future summer.

What I'm reading...
Target had select books on sale for $2! Ari has become an amazing reader, so when we saw Kate DiCamillo's Mercy Watson series, we had to pick up a few of the books. They are beginner chapter books based on a pig who lives in a house like a child. Ari is really enjoying reading them and needs just a little assistance. If you have a reader who's not quite ready for Magic Tree House but is ready for the next step, check out the series HERE.

What I'm listening to...
My kids have been quoting t.v. shows and movies on repeat. Mom points if you know where these came from: "All I know is pain!" and "Exploded diaper!" How many more days of summer vacation?

What I'm wearing...
I'm back in the running game, and I definitely am enjoying my workouts more now that I can listen to music. Running without music was SO boring. Robert got me THESE Bluetooth headphones, and I love that they stay put the entire run.

What we're doing this weekend...
Robert and my dad are working on staining our front door. The previous owners of our home installed the sprinkler system so that it had water spraying the door. Door companies were wanting to charge me over $900 to do the job, but thankfully Robert and my dad are going to tackle the task this weekend.

What I'm looking forward to...
I don't get to go to the movies often so I'm looking forward to taking the kids to see Despicable Me 3 and hopefully having a double date night with friends to see The House

What else is new...
I've only read The Husband's Secret but I was intrigued by the plot of Big Little Lies. I started the HBO mini-series and couldn't stop watching it. Since I didn't read the book, I'm still left with some questions. If you've seen the series and read the book, please tell me your thoughts on if the series followed the book, specifically the very ending scene. Also, I was curious to know if the kids were as mature as they portrayed in the series- like creating music playlists and the 1st grader calling Madeline "woman" all the time.

Question of the month: What's your favorite July 4th tradition?
We have a parade from one pool to another in our neighborhood each year. The firefighters come out to lead it and when we get to the last pool, we have snowcones and hot dogs. I love that the kids get all dressed up in their Americana! Here they are from the last 3 years:

Thanks so much for stopping by today! What was your favorite moment of your June? Tell me in the comments below, and don't forget to link-up with me tomorrow to share your favorite recipe of the week for Try It Thursday! See you soon!

Show & Tell Tuesday: Living Room

Hi everyone! Thanks for joining me today for Momfessionals' Show & Tell Tuesday! The prompt was to do an entire home tour, but I have to tell you a few things.

First off, although we've lived in this house for 3 years, we really haven't done a lot to put our stamp on it and have spent our money on other things like paying off our cars.

Secondly, since I am moving to a new school this year, I have an entire classroom stored in my master bedroom right now!

Finally, I'm exhausted and it's summer time, so with the kids home 24/7, our entire home is just not up for being viewed right now. So, for today, I'm sharing our living room.

Robert and I love the artist Jasper Johns, so when I was in NYC and purchased a large print of "Map" which is one of our favorite JJ paintings, we knew that we had our living room focal point.

Here's an aerial shot of our living room. Sorry, you're getting real life shots with sneakers by the door and Target bags hanging in the kitchen!

At our old house, we had a forest green couch set that just was too small for our current home. We sent that set upstairs for the kids to use in the game room and decided to purchase a leather set from Star Furniture.

It took us 2 years to find a rug that worked in the space, but we absolutely love THIS one from Target. If you're in the market for a rug, watch for Target deals- they often run 2 day sales online. I found the peacock paintings at Home Goods and felt like the colors played nicely with the Jasper Johns painting. I bought pillows at Home Goods to match some of the painting colors as well. One of the side tables is a hand me down, as well as the coffee table.

Painting the coffee table has been on my to-do list for a while now. I think I'm going to use Annie Sloan chalk paint and give it a distressed finish with the wax.

The living room looks out to the pool and is connected to our master bedroom. We have plantation shutters on all of the downstairs windows except the living room windows. WHY? I have absolutely no idea why the previous owners opted to not put the same blinds here, and it drives me absolutely nuts. I love when it is Christmas time because I can block out so much light with the Christmas tree! This is another project on our to-do list.

The room sometimes feels a little too large, but the additional space makes it easy for me to do my workouts on the big t.v.

This is a pastel drawing that Trip did in first grade, and it was picked for the district art show. I love the colors, and again, it went perfectly with our original focal point painting.

I think it also adds interest to an otherwise random wall.

I don't love our fireplace area as is and would like to do a refresh eventually, but since we never use the fireplace, it's at the bottom of our list for now.

The chairs are from Robert's Memaw's house and are actually part of our dining room set. However, we needed more seating in this area, and the dining room is very small, so we moved them out to the living room. I have plans to recover all of the dining chairs in funky fabrics one day, but I think I will recover both of these in cowhide to flow with the leather couches.

Robert built me this table from a base his Memaw bought in Mexico. It matches our dining room table bases, and we used to keep this in our front room at our old house. The mirror is from Home Goods, as is the lamp. We have a vintage tray from my grandma that Trip keeps all of his arrow heads, shark teeth, deer horns, and pretty rocks in.

This end of the couch is my command center where I usually am plugged in to blog and catch up on emails. I picked up the side table from Target in their clearance section, and then I picked up the faux log lamp at Home Goods.

They may be a pain to dust, but I love the built ins. I definitely don't follow the interior design rules about how many books, picture frames, or tchotchkes you're supposed to have on each shelf, but I kind of love it as is.

I promise to share more of our house in the future. You can see how I decorate my home for Christmas HERE! And my Easter decorations can be seen in THIS post!

What is your favorite room in your house? Are there any projects that have been sitting on your to-do list for too long? Tell me about them in the comments below!

Did you notice my weights and yoga mat out? It's time for another round of Tuesday Training! Check out week 26 HERE! I'm back tomorrow for a wrap-up of June for What's Up Wednesday! See you soon!

Tuesday Training: Week 26

Hi! Thanks for joining me for week 26 of Tuesday Training! I finally found a great intervals app for running last week. If you're a Samsung phone user, try HIIT interval trainer. You can customize the times for each interval, add or take away a countdown, and select the transition sounds. It has been super helpful to get me through a workout!

We've had some crummy weather lately, so I haven't been able to get out and run as much as I've wanted to. Remember when I introduced you to Jeanette Jenkins in week 16? I'm bringing her back for another workout! This is basically a longer version of the week 16 workout, so if you haven't done that one yet, I'd start there first. This video will require 45 minutes and a yoga mat. If you're looking for a great cardio sculpt, look no further: Burn 500 Calories in 45 Minutes With This Cardio and Sculpting Workout

Don't forget that you can view all of the Tuesday Training videos in one place HERE

Today's a double post day, so make sure to check out my Show and Tell Tuesday post HERE

I'll see you back here tomorrow to wrap up June with What's Up Wednesday. See you soon!

Life With the Lees: A Summer's Week Recap 6.26.17

Happy Monday! We missed out on most of Tropical Storm Cindy's mayhem but had some rain this weekend. Luckily we had great weather last week and were able to hit up yet another playground!

I kept my word and made fresh salsa on Monday. We may have a bit of a chip hoarding problem in my house! HEB's Central Market Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips are my personal favorite.

On Wednesday, Robert and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. Yesterday marked 12 years together! You can read more about our wedding HERE

We went to enjoy the happy hour food prices at Brio and then came back to take the kids to their swim team party. This was the first year we went to the party, and I figured the kids would just be running around and getting yucky, so I did nothing with Ari's hair. All the kids got called up to the stage, and I started to feel a little mortified. THEN, they announce that Ari won the most improved award for freestyle. I'm feeling bad taking her picture at this point! Don't worry, it gets worse. They then go on to announce that there is a special award for the youngest age group called the "Cute as a Button Award." Yea, my kid who looked like she maybe lived in the woods won the award and I'm pretty sure the entire cafeteria side-eyed me. AGH! We quickly put her hair in a ponytail to alleviate the situation and went on to cheer for our Triple who won the most improved award for butterfly!

On Thursday, the boys headed to the ranch to continue working on fencing.

It was Trip's turn to take a horseback lesson!

Ari is jealous because Doodle got to ride two different horses!

While the boys were away, the girls played! We enjoyed microwave s'mores for dessert.

I had hoped to catch up on my DVR but someone else ruled the remote each night! Don't you LOVE all of the boxes in my room? That's 9 years of teaching living in my bedroom- sorry Robert!

On Friday, this chica wanted to play with hair curlers! Before:

After! (Side note: That's Charlie, her basset hound. He's named after the Pioneer Woman's old pup, and he basically goes everywhere Ari goes.)

We met up with my parents at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants and then stopped by our local animal park on the way home. We made friends with a bird that whistles and likes to be talked to. If you're sweet enough to him, he tells you, "I love you!" It's so cute!

We woke up to rainstorms on Saturday and got to work on painting horses.

We played a round of War. (And yes, I'm one of those moms who doesn't let their kids win- sorry, not sorry!)

And then after a nap, Ari asked to play in my makeup drawer. She did my makeup and then we did eyes, cheeks, and lips for her. That lip gloss is from my last Sephora box - another Sephora fail but she thought it was fun!

I think she did a pretty good job on my face - a little overpowdering, but I'll take it!

And no, I don't plan on letting her out of the house like this- just a little fun on a rainy day!

We did some My Little Pony coloring to showcase our alter-egos. I'm Twilight Sparkle because I'm the bossy one in the family, and Ari is Pinkie Pie because she's super fun!

Speaking of ponies, one of my students made this for me a few years ago. I love that it truly looks like teacher Allie as a pony! I even have a social studies cutie mark!

The boys made it home Sunday to more rain, so we tackled some chores, read, and watched more movies. We're gearing up for a busy week ahead. Hope you have a great Monday! I'll see you back here tomorrow for Show & Tell Tuesday and week 26 of Tuesday Training. See you soon!
