Friday Favorites

Hello Friday! Thanks for joining me for another week of favorites! I'm super excited because my travel agent is going to be booking my Disney World vacation NEXT WEEK! You know those memes that count down the wait til Christmas almost immediately after Christmas ends? I think I'm going to need one for my Disney adventure! I have a random assortment of favorites for you this week, so let's get the show on the road!

1) Sunscreen

Tanya at The Other Side of the Road just did a great post on sunscreens. I got really aggravated with going through an entire spray bottle for one trip to the pool, so this year, we picked up a new lotion and have loved it! We're using Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport 30. It has a great smell, is very light, and provides excellent coverage.

2) Kid Swimsuit

I'm super jealous of Ari's new suit from Target! We tried the Cat & Jack line, and it just wasn't fitting her right. The Xhilaration line is much more her fit, and I wish they had her suit in my size- it is so cute!

3) Dance Parties

My kids (and I) are obsessed with watching music videos on You Tube on our television and having dance parties. Ari and I are loving Demi Lovato's "Really Don't Care" with Cher Lloyd. My kids also love searching up Just Dance videos where someone has recorded the screen while playing the video game. It's pretty fun to follow along with, and if you do a couple of videos, you can work up quite a sweat! New Tuesday Training video?!? Ha!

4) Intervals App?

So I wasn't planning to get back into running again until Thanksgiving when I start training for my February 5K, but my body gets in shape so much quicker when I run. The only problem is that I HATE distance running, and my bones aren't really a fan of it either. Robert and Nicole over at Adventures of a Semper Fi Family have convinced me that I will do a lot better if I do intervals of running and walking. I'm loving it and did a 3 mile course yesterday in about 33 minutes! Way better than my 45 minute 5K of jogging super slow! The only problem I'm having is that I'd like to run with an intervals app that will buzz/vibrate/make a sound when it's time to transition to the next interval instead of me looking at my phone or guesstimating. Please give me some recommendations! (P.S. I have a Samsung if that makes any difference in apps.)

5) Date night and gift ideas?

Next week, Robert and I are celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary (and 12th year together)! I finally found a babysitter that I trust, and we are hoping to start scheduling more date nights. Give me some fun suggestions please! (FYI we don't drink, so wine/beer tastings aren't our thing.) Also, any thoughts on anniversary gifts? We don't always do gifts, but if you give me a good idea, we may just change that!

  1. Happy Anniversary! For the 9th Anniversary, the traditional gift is pottery. Do you have a pottery place near you? You can go on a date night there- that would be fun!

  2. Happy Friday, Al! I'm so happy you found a sitter. Some things we love to do that don't necessarily involve adult beverages...we love to go to dinner on the lake when there is live music. In the summer it's just perfect. We also like to take advantage of free summer concert series as they roll in. My daughter's new favorite song is Bad Liar by Selena Gomez. I haven't heard but twenty seconds of it blared from her room. I need to check both that one and your's out. YAY for Disney! And I am so confused with SPF now. I read consumer reports and they said Banana Boat was the best under whatever testing. I bought it and it's been pretty good. I mean burns are going to happen but it did lessen them. However, when I wear the good ole Walmart brand? I don't get burned at all. OK I've rambled. HAPPY WEEKEND! xoxoxoxo

    1. I feel like every report is different- one will say that a brand of sunscreen is going to kill us and then another report says it is life-saving! LOL!

  3. We love that Banana Boat sunscreen. I just found it this summer too and we use it all the time. I love the smell, but I also love that it is not greasy. Happy Anniversary!

    1. I love when I get a lot of coverage and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg!

  4. YES to going through one bottle of spray sunscreen. Love the stuff, but you can go into the poor house buying it. That's what happened on our beach trip. Two days in and I said "you guys are just gonna' have to do it old school". Happy Anniversary and I'm so happy you found a sitter you trust. Such a huge deal. So I knew I liked you for a lot of reasons...we don't drink either and let me tell you that living in "wine country" and not drinking makes you seem like some kind of FREAK. Sorry bout' it! I loved this post Allie! OH!!!!! So excited for your Disney vacation. I know it's going to make me totally want to go back! Happy Friday!

    1. It can be frustrating because people think you don't want to go to happy hour- I love happy hour! I EAT! It's also frustrating when people KNOW you don't drink and then they give you a bottle of wine as a gift EVERY time they see you. I've definitely been encouraging night swims at our house so we don't have to sunscreen up! :)

  5. Yea for date night! This is random..but I've been dying to have a date with dinner and then shooting at a gun range. :) I love doing things Keith has to kind of be in charge of leading. I'm "in charge" so much at home with his commute so it's always fun not to be.

And interval running was so much better for me!! In order to run without intervals I had to go really slow but with intervals I had more energy always and trained for 3 half marathons with that method!

    1. It's funny that you said this- we actually go shooting together a few times a year. We were going to do that date for our anniversary, but I don't want to scare off the new babysitter just yet! Can you imagine the little girl's face when we come home with all of our weapons!? LOL!

  6. Happy early anniversary! My husband and I went to Disney for our honeymoon last year, so I totally understand the countdown! So excited for you to go! Please blog about it because Disney blog posts are my favorite! :)

  8. Thanks for the shout out...I'll have to give that Hawaiian tropic a try. Can't wait to hear about your Disney plans... definitely need a countdown! That swimsuit is super cute! If you lived a little closer, I'd send Grace over to babysit! ;)

    1. So I have to tell you, Trip and I went to Katy Mills today to see a movie, and the theater seats are so much nicer than they were a few months ago- you should totally go! We also stopped by Trader Joe's in Cinco Ranch, and that parking was insane- I thought City Centre was bad, but sheesh!

    1. Thank you! I'm not looking forward to paying for a sitter, but I was a great babysitter and the families I babysat for became family to me, so I hope my kids get to bond with a big kid in the 'hood!

  10. Woohoo! Run baby run! I use Zenlabs C25K and it prompts me when it's time to run/walk. I like it. Not sure if they have it for Samsung. I imagine yes but not sure.

  11. Happy Anniversary!! I have yet to find a sitter I trust so I know that's a HUGE deal. My husband and I love to go to a fun dinner (fondue, hibachi, etc) and go to Dave and Busters sans kids and get crazy competitive with the games. We also pack sandwiches and go kayaking.

    1. D&B is a great idea! We went for a friend's birthday last year and the food was actually pretty yummy, too! Hope you are having a fun trip!

  12. I'm long that exact same sunscreen this summer! So glad you are getting back into running! I wish I knew of an app for you, but I don't. What about hitting up a local driving range for a date night. I'm super uncoordinated and not into golf, but Alex and I had a blast at the driving range!! You could grab ice cream afterwards or hit up a pizza shop before.

    1. Hoping it goes well- I told my agent that she has to keep my husband happy on the trip so he doesn't grouch up the whole time!
