Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! Robert and I celebrated our 9 year wedding anniversary on Wednesday, and our 12 year anniversary of being together is this Sunday. For today's Friday Favorites, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite pictures from our wedding.

We got married in Robert's hometown at his Memaw's house. We had a quick rehearsal in the extreme June heat, but our officiant kept it quick and light-hearted.

Same thing for our ceremony- pretty sure most people will tell you it was the shortest wedding they've attended! Our wedding party walked down the aisle to the piano only version of Vanessa Carlton's "Ordinary Day," and I walked down the aisle to the classic "Canon in Gigue." Robert and I walked back up the aisle together to Three Dog Night's "Joy to the World."

This was the last big event that my Popo was alive to attend, and I'm so glad that he was there for this big day. This is one of my absolute favorite photos- my Nana and Po were so cute!

Robert and I used to have wiener dogs, and of course we had to include them in the ceremony. They wore Isaac Mizrahi dresses from Target in our wedding colors. Not everyone was thrilled by our wedding colors- black, pink, and lime green! We got a few, "Who wears black to a wedding!?" comments, and I feel like nowadays, Pinterest would be all over this combo.

I also loved that the kids I babysat for were able to be a part of our big day. We were supposed to get a big shipment of ranunculus for our bouquets and arrangements, and they got cancelled last minute. I was super disappointed with what we had to work with, but my mom made an awesome pomander out of kermit mums for Megan to hold.

I hope that people enjoyed the reception- we kept it simple and had a Mexican themed dinner of fajitas. We had cupcakes and a small cake to cut into, and those cupcake stands have now been used at least a dozen times for wedding showers, baby showers, and parties! Great Target find!

Robert has a large extended family and since we got married in his Memaw's home, I thought it would be neat to display the wedding pictures and anniversary dates of all of the family members.

Have you noticed that I haven't mentioned anything about my dress? My dress wasn't a favorite. I paid for my dress and just couldn't afford to spend $1,000+. I decided to go the way of purchasing a bridesmaid dress in champagne. I had found one that was around $300 and was very art deco and I loved it. I couldn't convince everyone that it was the one and settled for a simple $100 bridesmaid dress from Alfred Angelo. The dress became even less of a favorite when the chocolate cupcake covered ring bearer came in for a hug and got chocolate all over the dress!

There were parts of our wedding that were definitely a mess and not the way I envisioned them, but sometimes the big, over the top productions lead to a lifetime of unhappiness, so I'll take our little wedding and a happy marriage over the glitz and glam any time. Although, now that I have Trip and Ari, there are definitely days where I think it would be fun to get married to each other again so that our kids could be there!

    1. I know- what the heck were we thinking to have an outdoor wedding in the summer in Texas? I guess since the venue would be free, that's all that mattered!

  4. Awww, so sweet. We had cut magnolia leaves from a tree and taken them to the florist to use with all the other flowers and then they totally forgot them. I was just like "oh well"...which is soooo not me. It was crazy how calm I was on our wedding day. I still haven't figure that out...LOL. You made a darling little bride and everything that was important to you that day is what matters. ❤️

    1. Oh magnolia leaves- that would've been so pretty! We have yet to live in a home with a magnolia tree, so my only demand on our home where we retire will be to have magnolia trees! I think it is funny that our wedding is the only one I haven't cried in- even if you're a total stranger on tv, I'll cry, but my own? Not a single tear!

  5. Happy Anniversary!!! I love that you kept your wedding simple, I think it let's the true meaning of getting married is what it's all about, not the decor or food or dress ;) We'll celebrate 3 years in September and the car I drove to get my hair/makeup done the morning of literally broke down and left me on the side of the road! Dad and FIL had to come rescue me lol

  7. Are you ready? 1. My wedding was 8 minutes long from start to finish, including a soloist/candle lighting. 2. We were so nervous we put the rings on the wrong hands. It is shown in our wedding photos. 3. We expected 50 to attend and instead had 176. Oh sh**. 4. My dress was a David's Bridal $299 rack dress - I loved it and stil do. You don't have to spend loads of cash on a dress you will wear one time. If I ever get down to that size again I will wear it and have a vow renewal. Guess what? I adore you! Happy weekend!

    1. OMG dying! That is too funny about the rings! Confession time: I have a secret Pinterest board with stuff if we had a vow renewal. We probably won't, but gosh, I would love to be able to wear a beautiful gown one day.

    1. Thanks, Trista! Oh my goodness- too funny! Well, I really wanted a Great Gatsby styled hairdo, and when I went to the next big town from Robert's hometown, nobody in the town could do the fingerwaves. I had to just wear air dried hair- ack!

  12. Happy Anniversary! My biggest regret on my 2nd marriage was not having a professional photographer. I was at a wedding once where the bridesmaids were carrying candles and in the middle of the ceremony the brides sister caught her hair on fire..yikes!

    1. That's insane- very Michael Jackson Pepsi commercial-esque! Hopefully the bride didn't get mad at her for being a distraction! :)

  14. Loved reading more about your special day. At our wedding right after the service as we were leaving the heavens opened up and we had to run to our trolley and most of our guests were drowned rats by the time they got to their cars. They all went to the hotel where the reception was and used hair dryers to dry up - ha. It literally only rained for 15 minutes too. xoxo ERIN

  20. I hope you guys had the best anniversary! I love seeing wedding flashbacks-things change so much! But you are so right, at the end of the day the marriage that comes out on the other side is the most important thing :-) I love those cupcake stands, and how sweet that it was at his Memaw's house!

    1. Thanks, Mackensey! We had a great early dinner out and spent a lot of it talking about Disney plans and spending a gift card at a local kitchenwares store, so I'd chalk it up to a win!
