Life With the Lees: A Summer's Week Recap 6.26.17

Happy Monday! We missed out on most of Tropical Storm Cindy's mayhem but had some rain this weekend. Luckily we had great weather last week and were able to hit up yet another playground!

I kept my word and made fresh salsa on Monday. We may have a bit of a chip hoarding problem in my house! HEB's Central Market Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips are my personal favorite.

On Wednesday, Robert and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. Yesterday marked 12 years together! You can read more about our wedding HERE

We went to enjoy the happy hour food prices at Brio and then came back to take the kids to their swim team party. This was the first year we went to the party, and I figured the kids would just be running around and getting yucky, so I did nothing with Ari's hair. All the kids got called up to the stage, and I started to feel a little mortified. THEN, they announce that Ari won the most improved award for freestyle. I'm feeling bad taking her picture at this point! Don't worry, it gets worse. They then go on to announce that there is a special award for the youngest age group called the "Cute as a Button Award." Yea, my kid who looked like she maybe lived in the woods won the award and I'm pretty sure the entire cafeteria side-eyed me. AGH! We quickly put her hair in a ponytail to alleviate the situation and went on to cheer for our Triple who won the most improved award for butterfly!

On Thursday, the boys headed to the ranch to continue working on fencing.

It was Trip's turn to take a horseback lesson!

Ari is jealous because Doodle got to ride two different horses!

While the boys were away, the girls played! We enjoyed microwave s'mores for dessert.

I had hoped to catch up on my DVR but someone else ruled the remote each night! Don't you LOVE all of the boxes in my room? That's 9 years of teaching living in my bedroom- sorry Robert!

On Friday, this chica wanted to play with hair curlers! Before:

After! (Side note: That's Charlie, her basset hound. He's named after the Pioneer Woman's old pup, and he basically goes everywhere Ari goes.)

We met up with my parents at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants and then stopped by our local animal park on the way home. We made friends with a bird that whistles and likes to be talked to. If you're sweet enough to him, he tells you, "I love you!" It's so cute!

We woke up to rainstorms on Saturday and got to work on painting horses.

We played a round of War. (And yes, I'm one of those moms who doesn't let their kids win- sorry, not sorry!)

And then after a nap, Ari asked to play in my makeup drawer. She did my makeup and then we did eyes, cheeks, and lips for her. That lip gloss is from my last Sephora box - another Sephora fail but she thought it was fun!

I think she did a pretty good job on my face - a little overpowdering, but I'll take it!

And no, I don't plan on letting her out of the house like this- just a little fun on a rainy day!

We did some My Little Pony coloring to showcase our alter-egos. I'm Twilight Sparkle because I'm the bossy one in the family, and Ari is Pinkie Pie because she's super fun!

Speaking of ponies, one of my students made this for me a few years ago. I love that it truly looks like teacher Allie as a pony! I even have a social studies cutie mark!

The boys made it home Sunday to more rain, so we tackled some chores, read, and watched more movies. We're gearing up for a busy week ahead. Hope you have a great Monday! I'll see you back here tomorrow for Show & Tell Tuesday and week 26 of Tuesday Training. See you soon!

  1. I do not think she looks like she's been living in the woods, but the story is super funny! That is SO something that would happen to me. Congrats to them both for such awesome awards! And microwave smores sound so yummy! Hope you have an amazing week!

    1. Girl, I don't know how to braid to save my life, and I've been letting the kids pick their own outfits this summer. There were quite a few pristine princesses on the stage, so it was hilarious yet cringeworthy to have her win!

    1. Ha! I was a little nervous and thought she was going to pick my more fun colors like purple mascara and blue eyeshadow, but surprisingly she went with the neutral palette. I am thinking of looking for coloring pages with faces on it that she could play with color palettes.

    1. I know- I could see a mini-teenager already- YIKES! I'm so not cut out to be a dance mom or pageant mom, so let's hope she sticks with baseball and soccer so I don't have to do mascara or lipstick again for a while!

    1. Oh good! We moved all of the outdoor furniture to the gate so that it wouldn't fly into the pool like it has done in storms past! Glad we didn't have to retrieve anything this time!

  9. OMG that picture of you guys dressed up like Kiss is awesome!! I used to LOVE Kiss when I was a teenager! My Daddy took me to see them when I was 16 and it was a blast!

    1. We are hoping they come to Houston soon so that it can be Ari's first concert. She loves them and is the reason that we went as KISS last Halloween.

  10. You girls had the cutest weekend. I knew as soon as I saw her with the purple lips where it came from. I have to tell you that I actually like it. WHAT? Every time I've put it on I want to tell you to try it with a shimmery light pink lipstick over it. It tames it and makes a pretty summery color. The stuff has great staying power. I'm going to see what other shades they have. I liked it and the Tarte tinted moisturizer, but I did cancel my subscription. I got 2 hair products that totally don't relate to me. Happy Monday! OH...and I want to try the sweet potato tortilla chips!

    1. I just signed up for Ipsy today. I agree, the Kat Von D lip color looked good on me when I wiped it off and put gloss on top. I too would like to see her other colors. She seems to have a good makeup line.

  11. What an honestly fun weekend! I think we got rain from the storm all the way up here. I love your girl time. Those are things I miss with my teenage daughter who couldn't sit still long enough to color. Or away from her electronics :)

    1. I enjoyed our time together, but Ari is becoming a little bit of a toot. I was a little excited for the boys to come home so there was someone else for her to talk to!

  12. I don't let my kids win at games either - we are working on being good gracious winners and losers too ha! Competitive around our parts! I have so been there with my little girls hair too! Congrats to your kids on their swimming success! Xoxo Erin
