What's Up Wednesday: June 2017

Happy Wednesday! Thanks for joining me today as I link up with Mel, Sheaffer, and Shay to wrap-up June! My summer is already halfway over, so we're relishing as much pool time as we can. Make sure you link-up to share what's been going on in your world!

What we're eating this week...
We ended the weekend with BLT salads, and I roasted a chicken in my Instant Pot to use for quinoa bowls and quesadillas. We're going to finish the week with Italian Joes! Yum! If you love to share recipes, stop by tomorrow for my Try It Thursday link-up to share your favorite recipe of the week!

What I'm reminiscing about...
Last week was our 9th wedding anniversary, so a lot of my Facebook memory posts were wedding related. I shared all about our wedding for last week's Friday Favorites.

What I'm loving...
I'm making fresh salsa every Monday, and we love having it for an afternoon snack! You can make my recipe HERE!

What we've been up to...
Robert has had to go to the ranch the past few weekends, so I've gotten a lot of one-on-one time with each kiddo. We've been to the pool, had sleepovers, visited the science museum, eaten at favorite restaurants, and more!

What I'm dreading...
I'm so excited to take the kids to St. Louis next month, but we're getting to that point in the summer where they either love each other or hate each other just for being in the same room as the other. I don't know how the 12+ hour car ride is going to go.

What I'm working on...
My travel agent has booked our Disney 2018 vacation! I'm currently working on filling out a questionnaire so Dani can plan our itinerary. I definitely need your help in regards to restaurants. We are planning to go to Be Our Guest and T. Rex. Can you please tell me some of your favorite restaurants both in the park and at places like Disney Springs?

What I'm excited about...
If you read here often, you already know that I'm a one track mind and am stupid excited about our Disney trip. Even though we had it in the budget to stay at one of the fancier resorts, we're going to save some money and stay at a moderate resort and use the extra money to plan another family vacation for a future summer.

What I'm reading...
Target had select books on sale for $2! Ari has become an amazing reader, so when we saw Kate DiCamillo's Mercy Watson series, we had to pick up a few of the books. They are beginner chapter books based on a pig who lives in a house like a child. Ari is really enjoying reading them and needs just a little assistance. If you have a reader who's not quite ready for Magic Tree House but is ready for the next step, check out the series HERE.

What I'm listening to...
My kids have been quoting t.v. shows and movies on repeat. Mom points if you know where these came from: "All I know is pain!" and "Exploded diaper!" How many more days of summer vacation?

What I'm wearing...
I'm back in the running game, and I definitely am enjoying my workouts more now that I can listen to music. Running without music was SO boring. Robert got me THESE Bluetooth headphones, and I love that they stay put the entire run.

What we're doing this weekend...
Robert and my dad are working on staining our front door. The previous owners of our home installed the sprinkler system so that it had water spraying the door. Door companies were wanting to charge me over $900 to do the job, but thankfully Robert and my dad are going to tackle the task this weekend.

What I'm looking forward to...
I don't get to go to the movies often so I'm looking forward to taking the kids to see Despicable Me 3 and hopefully having a double date night with friends to see The House

What else is new...
I've only read The Husband's Secret but I was intrigued by the plot of Big Little Lies. I started the HBO mini-series and couldn't stop watching it. Since I didn't read the book, I'm still left with some questions. If you've seen the series and read the book, please tell me your thoughts on if the series followed the book, specifically the very ending scene. Also, I was curious to know if the kids were as mature as they portrayed in the series- like creating music playlists and the 1st grader calling Madeline "woman" all the time.

Question of the month: What's your favorite July 4th tradition?
We have a parade from one pool to another in our neighborhood each year. The firefighters come out to lead it and when we get to the last pool, we have snowcones and hot dogs. I love that the kids get all dressed up in their Americana! Here they are from the last 3 years:

Thanks so much for stopping by today! What was your favorite moment of your June? Tell me in the comments below, and don't forget to link-up with me tomorrow to share your favorite recipe of the week for Try It Thursday! See you soon!

  1. Hi Allie! Okay so much to write today. For restaurants, I loved the Boathouse in Disney Springs and my parents loved Raglan Road (Irish Pub) there. In Magic Kingdom, our favorite restaurant is the California Grille. It is at the top of the Contemporary Hotel and has the best view- you can make a late reservation and then watch the fireworks right from there! Ok now onto Big Little Lies- I loved it SO MUCH that I started watching it again. I have read some of Liane Moriarty's other novels but not this one- the ending scene can be confusing but I think she is trying to show that women can get each other and understand a situation from just one look...when they have that bond.

    1. Thanks for the restaurant info! I saw a friend at book club and she said the show ends the same way as the beach- I was referring to the detective watching them all at the beach. I wasn't sure if the show had done that to leave it open for a second season. I thought the acting was awesome!

  4. Hooray for your trip! So glad you got back into the running game! Isn't it crazy what things like doors and windows cost?! Glad you are able to make it into a DIY project. Have a fun weekend with the parade!

  5. We always had a HUGE 4th of July at my grandmother's every year. I miss that tradition so much. A Parade sounds so fun!

    1. I loved spending the 4th in St. Louis with my relatives, too. The kids already have their decorations picked out to decorate their bikes for the year!

  6. So my kids are obsessed with Teen Titans Go! I do not understand it at all, but it gives me a half an hour to get stuff done. We are officially at that same point of summer where we either love or hate, and it's mostly just fight on-stop because 'he's looking at me,' etc.. Stay strong!!

    1. LOL! I actually think I most relate to Raven although I do think Beast Boy is pretty funny. We're shipping the kids off to grandma's soon, so they're someone else's problem for a few days! :)

  7. What a fun recap of your month. I had to laugh about "Exploded Diaper" it is now in my head for the rest of the day. I love "Mercy Watson". What a fun 4th tradition as well. Disney is going to be so much fun!

    1. Oops- sorry about that! We are watching the third movie right now, and Trip and I went to see the new one- it was HORRIBLE! I really liked the actors in the original trilogy. I'm so sad because we went back to Target to get Mercy #5 and #6 for $2 and they were all gone! :(

  11. What is it about little kids dressed in red, white and blue that is so stinking adorable. I love it!!! I think we ate at Wolfgang Pucks place when it was "Downtown Disney" (I swear we need to go back) Crystal Palace for breakfast with all the Pooh characters was my favorite. Happy Wednesday!

    1. That's neat- I need to do a better job branching out and looking for restaurants at other resorts instead of just at the parks. We went to a Wolfgang restaurant in San Fran when I was in high school, and I probably didn't appreciate it the way I would now. Another blogger told me we had to go to the Art Smith restaurant at Disney, too. I started back on my calorie count today and was successful! Now I just have to stick with it for the rest of eternity!

    1. I vote you skip the pricier hotel. We were going to do Beach Club and then read horrible reviews on Trip Advisor. I think most people seem satisfied with Port O. I vote you use the money for a fun experience or dinner instead!

  13. How often do you do your recipe link-up. I don't blow too often on Thursdays but I would love to link up sometime. How exciting about Disney and that kids parade sounds so cute. I just love love love love 4th of July! xoxo ERIN PS St Louis is on our short list of family vacations but it's just a 6 hour drive for us!

    1. Definitely go to STL sometime- so many of the activities there are FREE! I do the recipe link up every Thursday except the 3rd Thursday when we host our monthly Ladies Who Link party. You can certainly link up old recipes that you've shared, too. I just like people to have the opportunity to visit other blogs and get more ideas. I need to add your 10th to my list of to-dos!

  14. That is so awesome that the guys can refinish the door. It will look so much better (speaking from someone who needs to get our door refinished!) I'm so glad your Disney plans are coming together. I don't have really strong opinions on Disney dining, especially for the fast casual restaurants. Are you getting the dining plan? And regarding Big Little Lies, I loved the show and loved the book even more. It has a really different feel, because it is set in Australia. It's been awhile since I read it, so I don't exactly remember the ending. But it was a great read!

    1. Yes, we are doing the plan with 2 snacks, 1 quick service, and 1 table service meal. I'm feeling like I'm going to have a hard time deciding what to do meal wise at Epcot- too many choices! I thought BLL did such a great job with so many plot twists!
