Friday Favorites

Hi! If you are working this week, I'm so glad your Friday is finally here for you! Summer teacher life basically means I can't tell you what day of the week it is, and I'm okay with that! While we hit our backyard pool often, it's nice to get out and go to our neighborhood pool a few times a week. The only thing I don't really enjoy about the outing? Packing everything to take! Today, I'm sharing five things you can find in our pool bag.

1) Pool speaker

Summer and swimming call for some great tunes! We love this Bluetooth speaker and use it every time we're in the pool. I think it's a great price and love that it is waterproof for when the kids' splashing gets a little crazy!

2) Shark vest

Ok, technically we have officially graduated from using this thanks to swim team, but before we could 100% trust Ari and Trip in the water without an adult in the pool next to them, the kids wore shark vests. This is a great tool to use if your child is too big for the wrap around floaties but isn't independently swimming just yet. The vest has several layers of styrofoam that you can remove one at a time as your child's swimming skills progress.

3) Swim team goggles

To avoid the whining that sometimes comes when kids swim in over chlorinated public pools, a pair of swim team goggles is totally worth the investment. Every swim season, the kids get a new pair of mirrored TYR goggles. They stay on tight, even when jumping off the diving board, and since they come in bright colors, they're easy to find in the bottom of your pool bag.

4) Accessories bag

Every spring when Target puts out its summer items in the Dollar Spot, I pick up a plastic accessories bag that I use to keep my cell phone, keys, glasses, and anything else that needs safe keeping dry from all of the cannonballing!

5) Old Navy flip flops

If you read my Stranded post from last year, then you know that I live in flip flops! I have one pair that I specifically wear only to my backyard pool, the neighborhood pool, or the beach, and at less than $5 a pair, it's easy to justify having more than one pair! My pool pair are hot pink so that I don't mix them up with my wear around the house pair.

What are some of your pool bag essentials? Tell me in the comments below!

I feel like I don't get to go out too often, so I'm excited for a mom dinner out with friends tonight! Trip is having some buddies over for a low-key birthday sleepover tomorrow night, and I'm excited to assemble the ice cream cake that he requested. I hope that you have a fun and relaxing weekend, and I'll see you back here on Monday!

    1. How in the world did we ever wear those plastic arm floaties as little kids? I tried them one time on my kid, and it was awful!

    1. You may want to start with the wrap-around floaties first and then transition to the shark vest. I like that it allows kids to lay on their belly to get into the actual swim position. How exciting to get a pool!

  4. That shark vest is so cute! And I really should look into getting a speaker for when the kids and I go to the river. Enjoy your night out. :)

    1. Yes- the speaker is perfect! I always recommend it for a dude birthday or holiday present. And I think it is super affordable compared to other travel speakers.

    1. I actually got a cute little one in my Sephora subscription box last month that has been helpful to use too. I'm switching to Ipsy this month, and I know I'll get a bunch of cute little baggies that will come in handy for the purse, pool bag, etc.

  6. I couldn't even begin to venture a guess at how many pairs of goggles we've purchased. Packing to go the pool is really like going on a mini trip (and a swim meet is like moving). Looks like you've got it down to a science! I used to have the same kind of routine and a pool bag that stayed packed all.summer.long. I miss those days!!! Have a great weekend!

    1. So glad swim team season is over! Yes, we keep one bag mostly packed at all times by the door. It's never fun when someone's goggles happen to be at the bottom of the pool when you're heading out! :)

  7. Amen for a pool speaker! We LOVE ours and we use it all the time. I don't know what we would do without it!

    1. It has been awesome to use. Little kids get too confused about their body positioning with the floaties, so I love that this helps them figure out how to swim better. Thanks for stopping by!

  11. It makes me a little sad that my kids don't enjoy heading to the pool anymore. Poor Carly wears glasses too so she can't see a darn thing at the pool lol. Hope you are having a great weekend

    1. Oh no, poor thing! Luckily I can still see without my glasses, so I wear polarized sunglasses to relax my eyes when I'm outside since I don't have prescription sunglasses. They need to invent goggles for glasses wearers!

  14. I wonder if the shark vest would be better for Hank. I like that you can take out layers. Right now he is using a puddle jumper and he just takes it off when he's working on swimming solo.

    1. Yes- it is the perfect step between puddle jumper and solo swimming!
