Workin' It Wednesday: A Summer Saturday

Happy Wednesday! Thanks for joining me today for another edition of Erika and Shay's Workin' It Wednesday link-up. Today is basically a day in the summer life post. I captured our Saturday a few weeks ago when swim team was finally over and we were all back under the same roof after a few weekends of Robert and the kids ranching. Ready for picture overload? Here we go!

No alarms on the weekend, but I was up before 7!

No run today, so I hit up my YouTube and did a couple of Popsugar Fitness videos. Check out my Tuesday Training video page HERE!

After my workout, Jagger and I walked to the mailbox to pick up the previous day's mail.

Trip and I got to pulling weeds in the front garden while Robert and my dad finished staining our front door.

The mutt supervised.

Someone was not thrilled about getting a bath!

I didn't get around to breakfast until 10 a.m. on this day, and I'm more than happy to eat that late. It helps keep me focused on my food plan for the day. I have been eating Special K Protein Cereal with almond milk for breakfast.

While I ate breakfast, I planned out my day of meals. I like to budget all of my meals first so that I know what I'm working with in regards to snacks throughout the day. If you're interested in learning more about My Fitness Pal, read my tutorial HERE

While I cleaned myself up, the kids played Battleship.

I checked over my to-do list for the day, and then the kids and I headed out for some errands.

Ari has been obsessed with reading the Mercy Watson series, and she asked if we could stay in the car until she finished the chapter she was on.

What was supposed to be a quick trip to Target turned into a venture into Old Navy, Bath & Body Works, PetCo, and Target!

Came in for dishwasher tablets and white nail polish - left with this!

We finally made it home for lunch. I've been eating overnight oats for my lunch as it keeps me full longer. You can see my recipe HERE

After lunch, the kids played, Robert watched shows on the DVR, and I caught up on blog work and emails.

This kid hopped on the couch and asked to read some more chapters of Mercy Watson to me.

Then, I did some of my own reading!

I moved to the kitchen for a snack of Boom Chicka Pop and some more magazine time.

I think most people would say their least favorite chore is laundry, but I vote dishes as mine!

I got some mom time and headed to a few of my favorite places. I love how many stores and restaurants we have so close to us!

When I got home, the plan was for me to write out my grocery list and then hop in the pool. My computer had other plans and decided to do one of those hour long updates!

We finally made it outside for some pool time and hit up the jacuzzi!

I hopped out to make dinner. It was an empty the refrigerator night, so the boys had shrimp and alfredo pasta while the girls had plain Jane alfredo pasta. Surprisingly, it was a big winner!

After dinner, this girl got a purple pedicure and a red, white, and blue manicure for the 4th of July!

We finally got around to reading Matilda

Trip and I picked microwave s'mores for dessert while the Roo had Greek yogurt with some fixings.

The kids headed off to bed to watch The Lion King, and Robert and I settled in to finally watch Hidden Figures

I checked over my lists and added a few more things and called it a night!

Not the most exciting day you've ever seen, but I'll take it over a bad day any day! Tomorrow is my Doodle's 8th birthday, so I'm going to be doing a special post on him and foregoing my usual Try It Thursday link-up. I'll still be sure to include some of his favorite recipes in the post! See you soon!

    1. Ugh, even if I've stayed up til 11 or 12, I'm still up bright and early. I wish at least one other person in my family was like that, but I guess I should savor that alone time, right?

    1. Anytime I can keep it under $50 is a miracle! I got a new vest for the fall when I went yesterday and can't wait to wear it!

    1. I'm kind of amazed by what serving sizes are actually supposed to be- the Special K is 3/4 cup. Following the portions has made quite an improvement in my life!

  6. Awww!! My heart just exploded when your daughter asked to stay in the car to finish a chapter of a book! I LOVE how much they read and you read to them! What a great day! Popsugar Fitness videos and a walk to get them mail are two great ways to start the day!

    1. It's a blessing and a curse. I love that she loves to read, but there are definitely days where you're like, "Can we take a break from Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa?" LOL!

  7. I loved your day! Even when I have these link ups on my calendar I still manage to miss them (and I'm a very organized person, so I don't know what my deal is) Oh well... I'm not sure anyone can go into Target for 2 things and come out with just those (unless you are a man...LOL ) Happy Wednesday!

    1. Ha! You haven't met Robert, Lisa! He's not allowed to go to the grocery store with me because the cost practically doubles.

  8. What a great weekend! I would love to have that many stores near me. I love that your daughter wanted to read one more chapter...melt my heart! Also, I am craving shrimp alfredo now! :)

    1. So, I think making alfredo pizza on Saturday and then using the leftover sauce with shrimp and pasta for an easy Sunday dinner is going to be a new hack in our house!

  9. I love that Ari is such an avid reader. That love of reading will take her far in life. I am VERY impressed by your meal planning, especially for yourself. My weekends regularly include raiding the junk food cabinet.

    1. Trust me, I definitely go overboard on some days, especially with birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc. This last round of steroids just about ruined me and it has been tough to stick to the plan some days.

  10. Looks like a great Saturday to me! I so miss my boys being little. I loved the movie Hidden Figures, so good! I had a similar Target trip yesterday, so hard to leave with only the items on my list! Have a great rest of your day!

    1. Haha- Robert will sometimes call me to check to see if I'm still alive since a quick run to Target can sometimes turn into an hour of browsing. It doesn't help that I have 3 Targets in my area!

  11. Busy Saturday :) But relaxed at the same time! I'm so jealous of your pool - would love to just hop in and out! And your afternoon of magazine reading and Boom Chicka Pop sounds amazing!

    1. It's definitely nice to have but it does require a lot of upkeep. We hire someone to take care of our pool, but even that took a lot of trial and error finding the right person.

  12. I definitely think a weekend post from me would put people to sleep ;) There is no Home Goods or swimming.

    1. Hey at least you have the beach and some good books! I've got Lauren Graham's autobiography on hold at the library to pick up, and I ordered It Ends With Us to read in the car during our upcoming trip.

  13. We have an almost 8 year old at our house :) So fun watching them grow up! I love my wal-mart yeti too and am sipping lime water as I type :). I have been trying to be better about watching what I eat...vacationing too hard this summer,in the food department too! xoxo ERIN

    1. 8 is going to be a fun year. We are starting to practice a little more independence (and patience!) My kids are going out of town next week, and with every night basically planned as date night for us, it is going to be hard to stay on track! Keep that water going! I gave up soda in 10th grade and if I have a sip of one now, it makes me so sick. You can do it!
