What I Wore Wednesday: Ipsy Glam Bag Review August 2017

Happy Wednesday! Today is now officially my last day of "break" due to the hurricane, and I'm happy to get back into a routine. Thanks for joining me today as I link up with The Pleated Poppy, Get Your Pretty On, and Andrea at Living on Cloud Nine as I share my thoughts of my second Ipsy bag!

I received the "Peace, Love, Lipstick" bag this time. It is cute with a tassel, and it is a smaller but taller bag compared to last month's bag. I'm still currently using last month's bag in my purse, but this one would be great for travel or to hold hair products.

I received a pair of CLIV's Max Hyaluronic Masks. According to Ipsy, "Hyaluronic acid is one of the best methods of attracting and retaining moisture. This mask is 50% hyaluronic acid solution, which means it will definitely quench and refresh the thirstiest skin. It’s a heavy-hitter in the anti-aging arsenal too.The organically certified tencel sheet mask is infused with a proprietary botanical blends including green tea callus extract, witch hazel, and rose water. Basically, the recipe for chill."

I was kind of offended that Ipsy sent me a mask aimed at fighting aging and wrinkles, but I tried it out after a day at the pool. This mask is much gooier than the TONYMOLY masks. The mask was very saturated, but it did not drip down my face like TONYMOLY does. The mask was very large, and it did have a strong perfume scent. It made my skin feel soft, but I wasn't amazed by it to want to try it again.

I was really excited to receive Aurora's Pro Color Corrector in Pistachio. I deal with a lot of redness around my nose and chin, so I was hoping this was going to do the trick. Ispy touts this product saying, "The whisper-light cream is perfect for layering beneath foundation, but works fab solo too. Covering breakouts can be tricky, but pair this stuff and a concealing brush and your blemish will be wayyy less obvi."

Apparently I was not the only Ipsy gal who was disappointed in this concealer. I felt like it was chalky and didn't cover anything. Other ladies have concurred that the consistency was off and that it didn't do much in the coverage department. Darn!

Whoever curates my Ipsy bag does a great job paying attention to my reviews and likes! You know I have an addiction to eyeshadow, so of course I was thrilled to try out theBalm Cosmetics' Volume 2 eyeshadow in "Kuwakaribisha." Ipsy says, "Our fave new way to get glowing: this pale peachy powder is super pigmented, shimmery but not sparkly, and is totally buildable (in case you want your highlight to be extra extra). We apply this underneath our brow bones and at the inner corners of our eyes whenever we need to wake things up a lil bit."

There was a darker, caramel shade of this shadow sent out to some people, and I wish I had gotten that one! This one is fine for a highlight, but it's too light for me to use as an all over color. I hope I continue to receive shadows to try, but hopefully they will be more fun colors!

So this product was a total surprise! I was not expecting to receive a makeup brush, but how fun and different! According to Ipsy, "The gorgeous teal-shaded brush will up your blending game and add a pop of bling to your morning routine."

It is a part of a set that will run you over $325, so the quality of this brush is pretty nice. I don't feel like this exact brush is good for blending- I think it works best for applying all over color. For blending, I'm going to stick with my Real Techniques brushes.

The final product is one that I've been wanting from a makeup service this entire year! I'm so glad that Ipsy delivered! I received Lancome's Monsieur Big Mascara. Ipsy says, "Ain’t nobody got time to keep re-applying mascara! We took Monsieur Big Mascara for a test run and it lasted all day. It even still looked fresh after hitting the snooze button the next morning. Thanks to the smudge and flake-free formula, you can apply and forget it. No stressing about smears."

Hmmm...I'm going to have to disagree with that description. It definitely gives you pretty lashes, but this formula was not what I was hoping for. I ended my days with flakes of mascara in my eyes which was really uncomfortable and frustrating. I would love to continue to receive mascaras from Ipsy, but I don't think Lancome is a match for me.

So, I've gone back into my Ipsy profile and changed some of my product favorites, colors, etc., and I hope that will ensure that my 3rd bag is more catered to my needs. I did sneak a peek at the September bag, and it is CUTE!

Did you subscribe to a makeup service last month? Tell me what your favorite products were in August! I'll see you back here tomorrow for Try It Thursday- make sure you link up to share your favorite recipe of the week! See you soon!

  1. What a pretty little brush, I would've been ok with just that, LOL. Doesn't take much to make me happy but I'd be disappointed in the same products you mentioned. Have a GREAT Day!!

  2. That brush! I am such a sucker for marketing and packaging that TONYMOLY sucked me in! Hahaha! I do like their masks though. What a bummer about the mascara. Have a great day!

    1. I think TONYMOLY masks are fun to wear when you want to force yourself to kick back and relax. Have you seen great improvement in your skin from a certain one of their masks?

  3. I'm so happy you finally got some products to try that were what you've been wanting even if they weren't the dream products...now you know. Yippee!!! Getting the brush was cool too. That will last a long time. I still haven't subscribed to another service, but I need to think about it. Happy Wednesday!! XO

    1. She definitely would enjoy it! I know Tanya from The Other Side of the Road has a teen daughter who likes to get Ipsy, too. It's fun to try new products without putting down a huge chunk of change at Target or Ulta.

  7. Aw, cute bag! Sorry you didn't really LOVE most of these. I think Ipsy is fun - I got my sister a three month subscription one year for Christmas. I might have to subscribe myself in the future.
